History of America has been a subject requiring profound insight of civilization. It would be prerogative to state that the historical decisiveness of the United States or in broader sense- of North America is a matter of 500 years or more. This paper is going to find out the relevance and impact of laws during the eighteenth and the nineteenth century upon the mariners, cargo and the laborers. Before going to a certain context, we need to develop a profound understanding of the history of law in the United States, predominantly the North American countries. The historical analysis has been done with special reference to Amy Mitchell Cook’s epoch-making book “A Sea of Misadventures: Shipwreck and Survival in Early America”. The book encompasses the historical incidents and the mishaps in North American continent chronicling some unknown facts about the shipwrecks. American civil and legal history has been multifaceted since the country experienced different and severe change in its entire context (Appleby).
Published in 2013, the book has created a new zeal among the readers to get a profound idea pertaining to various legal complexities as well as racial discrepancies. However, it needs to be specified that the history of law practiced during the seventeenth and eighteenth century America was not related to the core history of its own. It rather described its dependence with its association with the European structure. The structure of the European legal system has been effectively strong in terms of addressing the laborers who were specifically brought from the African countries. His paper would be looking in to the fact of implementation and acceptance of European laws in the American context pertaining to labor system (Friedman, Lawrence and Hayden). During the war of 1812 the launch of Fells Point in Baltimore has to be taken in to certain consideration as this has been a positive approach with the effective chances in the essential merchant types (Bolste).
The book generates an essential viewpoint pertaining to the wreckage of ships and the plight of the black slaves. With hundreds of shipwreck narratives the author has depicted the historical event plights of the labors associated with trade (Gilmore). This paper thus delves in to the effectiveness of the laws pertaining to utilize the potential of the labors. It should be better to say that the laws were passed to exploit the potential of the labors- specifically the slaves in American marines.
