In the recent years, there has been growth in the number of scholars that have been rethinking on several popular analytical ideas for instance agency, resistance, in addition to community which structured on the revisionist historiography on the U.S slavery since the 1960s (Cobbs, Blum & Gjerde, 2011). Antony E. Kanye article research plunged on the historiographic issues on the slavery life and the concepts related to slavery.
In the book “Major Problems in American History vol1: To 1877’’he emphasizes that the neighborhood concept generally provides the greatest dividends in his discussion of the work and resistance. Work was the crucial battleground to the master slave battles over the power (Cobbs, Blum & Gjerde, 2011). Kanye has pointed that masters failed to have to deal with slaves all over, but instead at the choke points in which the decisions in relation to labor were made. In this review I will examine the concepts raised in this book in regards to economic, social as well as political elements that are discussed.
Social
Kanye explains how the bond individuals created neighborhood unintentionally went about their lives. The neighborhood comprised of adjoining plantations space that slaves socialized, forged kinship network as well as the resistance in regards to enslavement (Cobbs, Blum & Gjerde, 2011). The individual has presented the slave neighborhood as the alternative long standing slaves’ community paradigm which has informed the slave scholarship since the early of 1870s.
Political
The neighborhood concept provides useful leverage in regards to the perennial questions in the slave resistance. According to the ‘neighborhood’ concept it views politics as the how slaves revolted in effective terms and how to conceive broad shared identities. (Cobbs, Blum & Gjerde, 2011). Based on the views of Kanye he highlighted that the conflict that existed among the slaves was intrinsic to solidarity rather than the corrosive aspect. There was vital issue at that period such as the slavery expansion to the various territories. Alabama congressman advocated for the adaptation of the amendment extending to the Missouri which compromised line to the Pacific Ocean.
Economic
According to the views in the article by Kanye he has broadly examined the aspect of economic in regards to the European explorers on how they gained the niches in the America and Africa. In the USA there was abundance of wealth which the country offered (Cobbs, Blum & Gjerde, 2011). The author highlights how the Native American were enslaved in providing labor in burgeon mines. America was enriched with different minerals that have dated in 1660 and they were able to extract 7 million pounds of silver. The country had economic possibilities and the Spanish empire they also recognized on this potential. They searched for the land, slaves and the riches (Cobbs, Blum & Gjerde, 2011). Additionally, it was through the failures of the Indians to learn the mysteries of the manufacture from the Dobbs and Quera which marked the real revolution of the wrought by the trade which was later brought in the aspect of the international economic network.
