The complicated nature of hospital organizational structure

The hospitals have to function effectively and precisely as people rely on the hospitals that it would cure their illness and save their lives; hence, it is highly imperative that the hospitals render high quality services to the patients. The organizational structure of the modern hospitals is complicated network of departments, personnel, committees etc. In addition to being people-oriented and caring institution, the hospitals function as high-tech business organizations with channels of authority, a hierarchy of personnel and huge responsibilities (Weaver et al., 2016).  The organizations that deal with this sort of requirement, usually adopt a vertical form of organizational structure that includes several layers of management. This form of structure is beneficial, as it would prevent the staffs from becoming overstressed due to workload, which would enable the staffs to perform their tasks correctly and appropriately.

The following general description of hospital structure and organization divides the control, direction and governance of the hospital among the following entities:

Directors

Administrative

Medical Division

Nursing Division

Allied Healthcare Professionals

Patient Care Managers

Service Providers

Boards of Directors supervise hospitals being corporations.

The directors rely on their executives and ensure that the executives effectively implement the decisions made by the directors.

The chief medical officer is responsible for the healthcare services provided by healthcare professionals to the patients.

The head nurse or the nurse manager is solely responsible for all nursing care related services in his or her unit.

These healthcare professionals are neither physicians nor nurses but they an essential role in providing health care related services to the patients.

The Directors, Nurse managers and other supervising managers appoints people who deal with the patient care unit. This department of the hospital supervises and ensures that the

In order to run the hospital effectively,a lot of staffs provide various services to make everything happen.

Non-profit hospitals have boards comprising influential members of healthcare and local communities.

The Chief Executive Officer is primarily responsible for the successful implementation of the day-to-day operations of the business.

The medical staff usually comprise of medical physician, psychologists and dentists.

The nurse manager is responsible for coordinating different aspects of patient care including services provided by

These personnel provide services that support the work of the nurses and physicians, thus, enabling the medical facilities to run smoothly.

Hospital staffs are providing best medical treatment and care services to the patients and complying with the rules, regulations and instructions of the senior members and officers.

These staffs have specific duties and they are required to perform their functions according to the description of their jobs to ensure good health and safety of the patients.

Multi-hospital systems usually have one board of directors who supervises various facilities in the hospital.

There are other executives in other departments who also form an essential part of the management.

The medical staff plays an important role in reviewing and ensuring the quality of medical healthcare in services provided by the hospital.

hospital units, physical department, laboratories and pharmacy.

The mission of the Solution healthcare hospital is enumerated as follows:

  • To endow the patients and their families with a responsive environment;
  • To advance the quality of healthcare services provided to all the members of the society.
  • The solution healthcare hospital is a medical institution that is devoted to providing best quality patient care with special attention to medical excellence, safety of the patient and the assurance of providing best healthcare to those the hospitals serve (Carayon et al., 2014);
  • To provide best quality healthcare services at reasonable expense and the patients shall have the accessibility to such best quality health services;
  • The hospital gives assurance that while providing healthcare services, the hospital shall strive to cater to the needs of the communities;
  • The mission of the Solution healthcare hospital is to form a supportive team that would be dealing with the hospital environment related matters pertaining to the employees, medical staffs and the patients;
  • The hospital being a people-oriented medical institution is committed to provide excellent healthcare services and continuous performance improvement.
  • The hospital aims at paying more attention to the health and welfare of the patients they serve through education and other innovative services.
  • The value statement of the Solution health care hospital is not only to provide best quality health services, but also provides full support to the families of the patient (Moses et al., 2013);
  • The hospital provides detailed information to the family of the patients regarding the treatment of the patients and assures that the patient shall be provided with appropriate treatment for the welfare of the patient.

The rationale for the development of this particular mission and value statement is to become the first choice in health care for the society. It would enable the hospital to lead in providing quality health care services to the patient and besides providing physical comforts and cures, the hospital would be facilitate patient to maintain peace of heart and mind (Shortell, Gillies & Wu, 2017). Further, the mission and the value statement of the hospital signifies that with effective cooperation between the medical staffs and the patients the hospital purports to enhance the healthcare services for the well being of the patient and the society as a whole.

In order to render best quality healthcare services to the patients, it is imperative that a hospital is equipped with advanced machines and skilled, experienced, qualified and efficient medical staffs (Shi & Singh, 2014). Being a patient-oriented medical institution, the Solution healthcare hospital must have an effective plan to hire physicians, nurses and allied professionals who are skilled and competent in rendering high quality medical services to the patients and the community as a whole.

As nursing is an essential factor in determining the quality of services and care provided in any hospitals, therefore, while hiring nurses for the hospital, the authority must consider the following factors:

  • The nurse is adequately trained and willing to provide best quality healthcare services to the patients;
  • The nurse must be able to treat patients suffering from chronic disease, effectively;
  • The nurse must be capable of exhibiting due skill and diligence while dealing with patients;
  • The nurse must possess sufficient patience while dealing with patients especially the patients who are suffering from mental disability and aged patients;
  • The nurse must be responsible and efficient for providing primary care to a group of healthy individuals;

The recruitment of physician is a detailed process and therefore must be carefully recruited as they play the most important role in treating the patients and ensuring them a safe and healthy life (Grol et al., 2013). Therefore, while recruiting a physician, the hospital must have regards to the following factors:

  • The physician must be qualified and experienced for providing medical services to the patients;
  • The physician must be capable of handling any serious condition with patience;
  • The physician is competent to exercises reasonable standard of care towards the patients;
  • The physician is honest and is capable of providing appropriate medical services to the patients;

The control entities of a hospital

The allied professionals are persons who provide services that act as a support t the physicians and the nurses in rendering medical services to the patients (Faden et al., 2013). These professionals operate in a way that the healthcare professionals are able to provide the best quality care to the patients and the community. Such allied professionals include:

  • Laboratory technicians and technologists- they play an essential role in monitoring the physiology function and conducting diagnosis of diseases.
  • Allied health practitioners of the therapeutic sciences- these practitioners are fundamental to the treatment of patients who have sustained numerous injuries and are under serious medical conditions (Buerhaus et al., 2015).

Therefore, at the time of recruiting, the hospital authority must ensure that such allied professionals are:

  • adequately trained and skilled in their respective field;
  • the professionals are honest and exercise reasonable skill and diligence;
  • are competent to provide effective suggestions and recommendations to patients suffering from issues related to mental, alcoholism, drug abuse or who have been sent to rehabilitation.

The rationale for developing this plan is to enable the Solution Hospital to ensure that the healthcare providers including allied medical professionals are qualified, skilled and competent for the responsibilities for which they have been recruited in the hospital. This would enable the hospital to achieve its objective of rendering best health care facilities and catering to the needs of the patients and the community (Blais et al., 2015).

In the United States, it is imperative that the hospitals revitalize its systems and services as it would help them to provide efficient and high quality health care services that shall be accessible to all the citizens of America. The proper use of health information technology (IT) into primary care practices have been introduced to facilitate improvement in the healthcare quality so that the hospital is able to deliver best quality care to the patients.

The Solution hospital has also introduced technological services to resolve any form of legal issues within the hospital. The use of such technology is absolutely justified as the use of IT enables the hospital to manage the information regarding the health and health care of individual or group of individuals (Vayena et al., 2015). With the introduction of IT, the healthcare providers shall be able to render appropriate care to patients during emergency. Further, it shall become convenient for the Americans to avail relevant medical information and health records through the secure and private electronic health record. Moreover, patients for whom sharing information electronically is convenient, it would be beneficial for such patience (Fielding, Teutsch, & Breslow, 2017). Thus, this way IT not only improves the quality of care, it makes the healthcare services cost-effective as well.

  1. The IT services are cheaper for the patients but the expense to incorporate and maintain the services, it is very expensive;
  2. As technology is rapidly evolving, it becomes difficult to cope up the competitive edge and especially the aged staffs fail to keep up with this constant change in technology;
  3. Once the medical staffs adapt to the new technology they become over-dependent on the technology for which in case of any technical error in the information system, the entire department becomes helpless and have to wait until the problem is fixed.

The medical ethics and law are two overlapping concepts. While the medical professionals are required to follow the medical ethics, they are also legally obligated to perform their duties in accordingly. In case any issues relating to healthcare services arise, the medical professionals must be honest and communicate with the patients with due skill and diligence to resolve such issues.
