Introduction
NSW Sports is a company that has its tore set up in Sydney and has come up with a decision to sell broad and innovative range of sports equipment to the customers. The organization has decided to develop a Sales Recording System to make sure that the expansion and the increased sales activities are completed with best quality and performance.
Business Case and Justification
The development of the Sales Recording System will lead to the following benefits to NSW Sports.
- The performance and quality of the sales activities will improve as there will be use of automated processes that will not involve any operational issues or errors.
- There will no redundancy or duplication of the data involved as there will be automated data storage and processing (Baars, 2006).
- Customer base along with customer satisfaction will increase as enhanced sales management will lead to the ability to meet the expectations of the customers.
- The store will gain a competitive edge in the market as the processes will be technically advanced.
Project Scope Statement
In-Scope Activities
- Ability to allow the system to create a new member record and identify every member with the aid of a unique identifier.
- Ability to allow the user to carry out the search for the member with the aid of the unique identifier (Turbit, 2017).
- Ability to allow the system to make changes in the records of the existing members.
- Ability to allow the system to automatically process the sales transactions involved with the members and non-members (Millan, 2016).
- Ability to calculate total sales involved in the system (Green, 2011).
- Ability to make changes and upgrade the collection of the payments.
- Ability to receive the receipt comprising of the sales details along with the total amount.
- Ability to retrieve customized sales reports for the desired duration (Antikainen, 2010).
- Ability to set up a database for the sales recording system that would allow the storage along with the management of the database
- Ability to integrate the system along with its database with the rest of the systems that are present in NSW Sports
- Ability to make sure that there are security mechanisms and protection measures installed in the system (Gautam, 2014).
There will also be certain non-functional aspects that will be covered in the scope of the project.
- Sales recording system designed and implemented for NSW Sports shall have great degree of performance with minimum response and through time.
- The system shall remain available to the users at all times without any lags or breakdowns in between.
- The system shall be maintainable so that the upgrades may be installed easily and without any complexities (Leger, 2013).
- The usability of the system shall be high and the system shall be developed according to the functional specifications.
- Sales recording system shall have a high degree of reliability as it should come up with valid information at all times.
- The system shall be scalable in nature and shall be scaled up or down as per the changes in technology and the requirements of the customer.
Out of Scope Activities
- Negotiation activities to procure and receive the tools and equipment necessary during the project will not be covered by the project activities and will also not be reflected in the schedule
- The activities related with the setting up of the environments for the project activities will also not be covered (Acquah, 2012)

Project Costs
There are various costs that will be associated with the project of developing sales recording system for NSW Sports. The project team will require several tools and equipment in order to execute the project activities. These tools will include design tools, development tools, networking equipment, computer systems etc. A one-time cost will be required to be spent on the tools and that will be considered as initial cost. Apart from the one-time cost, there will also be other costs that will be associated with the project such as design and development costs, cost of resources, maintenance costs along with testing costs. There will also be several benefits that will result from the project and implementation of sales recording system in the organization. These benefits will include a mix of tangible and non tangible benefits along with reduction in operational costs and cost of tools. A discount rate of 5% has been applied to understand the interest rate of return.
Cost benefit analysis of the project costs and benefits that are associated with it have been depicted in the table below.
