ITECH1100 Understanding The Digital Revolution

Task 1

Fiction Oasis is a small second-hand book shop, run by a team of three staff members: Archie, Bhavesh, and Celestine. All these three employees are working on three different time shift. For operating and managing their cost for the business they are using a excel sheet. This excel sheet will help them to manage their business cost. This speed sheet calculates the operating hours of every employee. Moreover, the total wags of each employee is also calculated in this excel sheet. An annual report is also calculating in this excel sheet.  Where Archie, Bhavesh is working for free and Celestine is working for $33 per hours.

Task 2

Fiction Oasis doing both sells and buy book from their customer. The customers are not coming for only buying the books instead of that they also selling their old books to the Fiction Oasis. The present staffs are reviewing the book and its condition and make an offer to the customer for buying the book. The price of the book is not fixed. It is different for each book by depending on their time, condition and current market. In this section the excel sheet is used calculate the average price for each staff and a histogram is created for staff wise and month wise.

The excel calculation is =AVERAGEIFS (I2:I481, E2:E481,"=Archie", F2:F481,"=Poor") for calculating the average price staff wise. The calculation is change in staff name and condition section. It is seeming that the Archie average price paid is 1.5, 4.5 and 0.3 for poor, good and terrible book condition. Bhavesh average price paid 0.9, 5.12, 0.2 for poor, good and terrible respectably. And the Celestine is 1.5, 6.1, 0.2.

The excel calculation is =AVERAGEIFS (I1:I480, C1:C480,"=jul", F1:F480,"=Poor") for average in each month. Each month has different price. It is same as the above calculation that only condition and month is changed in each section.

Task 3

The staff of the book shop wants to improve their business process by understanding the book pricing. This task is about to creating an excel sheet which is shown their business process. They standardize their book offers by four types, those are rejects, low price, medium price, and high price. All this standers is depend on the book condition, publication year, book quality, and hardcover or paperback. This process is shown in the excel sheet by using formulas. The excel sheet formula is

=IF(F2="Terrible","Rejected",IF(F2="Poor","Low Price",IF(F2="Good",IF(G2<2002,"Low Price",IF(H2="Paperback","Medium Price","High Price")))))

In the above formula, if statement is use for apply the business process condition. First the formula will check the book condition that it is terrible, good or poor. If it is terrible then its directly reject the book. If it is in poor condition, then the price will be set as low price. If the condition is good, then it will process further. After determining the book condition is good it will check other things like publication date, new or old book and last it will check hardcover or paperback. If the book is older than 15 years then it will mark as low price and if the cover is paperback, then it will have marked as medium price and last if it is hardcover then it will have marked as high price.

Task 4

This task has two scenarios. One scenario is total prices are same as historical data. This thing is calculated in the excel sheet. In excel only three price is calculated. First the average of high price is calculated and then calculate the actual selling price which is double of the buying price. The excel sheet result is below:

Scenario two In scenario two an assumption is made. It is assuming that all books are purchased and all staff wage is same. This scenario is implement in the excel sheet.
