A person who holds a position of management in any organization needs to think very tactically and theoretically to gain the desired objectives. Management include far more than just letting others know what to do. Previously any one decides that one can reflect they can do boss’s job, let us take a deep appearance into more of what a manager ensures (Cliff Notes, 2016). I have worked as a marketing manager in a company fro few months where I had majorly four primary functions of management.
Planning
I was the marketing manager and had an objective of boosting sales during the particular month. I need to spend time mapping out all the important steps required to work as a team so that other sales representative will help in increasing the sales. I planned few steps which included advertising in specific region, placing few items on sale and discount, increasing customer-to-sales rep contact, and contacting earlier customers. Further, these steps were organized into a logical outline.
Organizing
The second step of managerial function is organizing. As I was working as a marketing manager, I had to distribute and allocate the necessary human resources management and manage and organize the employees based on the plan. I identified several roles and ensured that I must be able to assign right amount of task to the right employees in order to carry out the plan successfully. So, I divided the whole plan into my team. I had to delegate authorities, assign work and provide direction and routes to them so that my team will work harder to gain the expected sales and profits.
Leadership
Leadership is the third function of the management. I spent most of my time connecting and making bonding with my employees on an interpersonal level. Manager does not simply include managing tasks but it also involves communicating with the employees, motivating and encouraging them towards the objective and inspiring them towards higher level of productivity as well. A part from this, I also conducted large number of training sessions where employees were taught how to work to increase the sales and generate more profits. Additionally, as a leader I had also managed some incentive and reward for the employees that automatically boosted their interest towards their work (Wheelen et al., 2017). Rewarding them gave them a sense of commitment and dedication towards work itself (Heizer, 2016).
Controlling
This is the last step of the management function. Controlling involves all the necessary things that must be done in order to avoid the loss. After all the additional components are in place, a manager’s role is not yet ended. I had to endlessly check out all the consequences against goals and objectives and take the remedial measures if required just to make sure that my area’s plans remain on track. I had to give feedback to the employees so that they would know whether they are working according to the plan or not (Study. Com, 2018)
Thus, as a manager, I think my approach was quite effective because I was able to increase the sales and profits ratio in the particular month. Though, if I had made alternative solutions for the problems raised by the employees, it would be more beneficial.
