Morningside Heights is stretched from the eastern side of Morningside Park up to the Hudson River. The neighborhood is served by eight buses, from which three of them runs along the cross-town. Train along Broadway halts at 110th, 116th and 125th streets (Dosi et al., 2105). The neighborhood of Morningside is surrounded by schools and institutions. Due to increase in number of academic institutions, the neighborhood of Morningside is filled almost with teachers and students. The buildings combine a mixed tenancy comprising university staff and students. The total population of the area comprises of more than 2 lakh people. The female population is more than male population with 54.1% while the male population is of 45.9%.majority of population is between the age group of 18 to 24 years and is highly qualified (Minaya & Scott-Clayton, 2017).
People residing in the area are highly educated as white collar individuals are more than the blue collar people. Majority of the people in the Morningside Height region holds a graduate degree. Most of the people residing are single therefore non-family household are more in the area. Besides the white population, Asian and Hispanic are also present in the region. The average household income is around $ 127,294 (Hastings, Heller & Stephenson, 2017). The climatic condition in the area is also favorable and pleasant.
In earlier times, Morningside region was popular for several kinds of crimes and theft. In the past few decades, the rate of crime has dropped sharply from the Morningside Height and Harlem. The neighborhood in the recent times is much safer than previously. The region has both public and private schools in the region that spans from west Midtown to Upper Manhattan. The most popular university, Colombia University is designed by White, Mead & McKim. It covers the total area from 114th to 121st street. As the lower Harlem has gentrified, Morningside Heights has became a major destination for young families and first-time buyers that bypasses the upper west sides.
Morningside heights region is surrounded by parks and the Hudson Rivers that has walking path and bike facilities alongside. Grant’s Tomb, which was the final resting place of Ulysses, is nearby the Morningside. It also has a long east facing cliff slopping into Harlem’s. The Cathedral Church of St. Johns is also nearby that host varieties of events including, recital and performances for Memorial Day and New York Philharmonic. The region economic condition is also favorable and government laws and regulation are stable. Various dining and shopping options are available at Broadway (Kadi & Ronald 2014). The side streets connect the restaurants present at Amsterdam Avenue.
Other regions of New York City include Hudson Yard and Midtown east. Hudson Yard is a major centre for employment and business. The area has developed at a rapid pace and provides array of opportunities for employment in restaurant, retail, entertainment and services, the New York City Corporation, incorporated and banking business are estimated to be around $120.3 million and is highly expensive. Thus Morning side Heights market and economic scenario is more preferable for building a residential spot for all the first-time buyers as well as young families.
