Discuss about the Managing Organisational Change,This essay also includes the significance of leadership and its difference with management along with discussing Belbin’s theory of team role and the lesson learnt from the course work.

Challenges encountered while working as a team

Change is the only constant thing that organisations include and implement the working strategy to obtain most effective results (Burke, 2017). The leaders play a crucial role in bringing the change, as they possess the ability to have a vision that demonstrates the benefits of the change. Moreover, the leaders are also able to demonstrate the effectiveness and positives of change to address and overcome the difficulties encountered in a timely manner. A team encounters several challenges while working as a team in terms of lack of motivation. Poor performance and conflicts are commonly noticed due to lack of efficient leadership. From my lectures, I have learned that a leader plays a crucial role in managing a team effectively along with building an effective team. This essay also includes the significance of leadership and its difference with management along with discussing Belbin’s theory of team role and the lesson learnt from the course work.

While undertaking the course, I have learned that it is essential to overcome the challenges by providing an appropriate guidance and making them understand the effectiveness and significance of teamwork. I have learned that failing in attracting and retaining good coaches, volunteers, sportsman and administrators results due lack of effective leadership and team role. Failure in maintaining the business objectives and goals is noticed due to lack of an effective leader and effective teamwork. Moreover, grievances and conflicts are distinctly noticed within the team that has eventually deteriorates the overall team performance. While undertaking the course, I have also learned that conflicts between the team members are frequently noticed thereby, struggling to meet the objectives by the team. This results in low self-esteem and confidence within the team members as individuals. Therefore, the role of leadership and Belbin’s team role theory are crucial in bringing positive outcomes and enhancing the organisational effectiveness.

According to me, in an organisation, the role of leader and leadership skills is of utmost significance. While undertaking the course, I have learned that leaders help in creating a vision and proposing a change for the overall benefit of an organisation. A leader helps in demonstrating the difference between the present and the future of the organisation in terms of the developed vision. However, by showing the benefits and advantages of the proposed change, a leader convinces the team members to work towards achieving and implementing the change successfully. Moreover, the benefits and advantages of the vision showed by the leader helps in motivating the team members. Therefore, I think this provides immense motivation to the team members due to which they work enthusiastically towards achieving the goal. In order to achieve something, I think appropriate guidance and suggestions are required. I have also learned that leaders provides guidance and suggestions to the team members that helps the team members in achieving and implementing the change or vision for overall benefit.

According to the present situation of the team, leadership style and Belbin’s theory of team role would have been appropriate. Appropriate leadership guidance would help to manage the crisis and maintaining the change effectively. An efficient leader helps in creating a vision and suggesting strategies to achieve the vision (Volmer, Spurk & Niessen, 2012). Therefore, as a leader, the vision for the team is to use strategies to increase effectiveness by establishing effective teamwork. I have learned that this helps team members grow and by reducing interpersonal boundaries and conflicts. Based on the vision or the change the leader needs to develop and undertake strategies that successfully achieves the goals or objectives. Successful implementation of the strategy requires effective teamwork that can be achieved by using Belbin’s team roles as guidance.

Interpretation of the events

Belbin’s team roles consist of thought oriented, action oriented and people oriented team roles (Belbin, 2012). Action oriented team role includes team worker, coordinator and resource investigator, the action oriented role includes implementer, shaper and thought oriented role includes plant, specialist and monitor evaluator (Batenburg, van Walbeek & in der Maur, 2013). Belbin’s team roles helped me in planting the creative and imaginative strategy of fund raising that solves the difficulty faced by the team. I have also evaluated the consequences of the strategy by accurate judging and as a specialist suggested the mentioned strategy for raising funds. The theory provided me with the opportunity to divide action-oriented roles. As a result, the associated team members and I were reliable and efficient along with being challenging and had a dynamic perspective that encouraged overcoming obstacles and completing the tasks. This has helped me in assuring coordination and cooperation within the team, raising funds successfully and providing motivation.

Organising an event is effective and helpful for a team, in order to achieve the organisational goal and managing the change effectively. The leaders play a significant role in identifying the strengths and weakness of the team members. I have also learned that the leaders possess a very sharp and cunning eyesight in identifying the strengths and weakness of the team members. According to me, based on the individual strength and weakness of the team members, the leaders divide the roles and responsibilities. Therefore, playing according to the strengths and weakness of the team members ensures success in achieving the vision thereby, implementing the change successfully. Performance appraisal forms were also distributed that helped in determining the progress of the team. The matches also helped in building business relationships and get essential funding for the sports club in future. Therefore, the tendency and probability of success motivates the entire team in performing even better henceforth.

While working towards the vision or the change, the entire team needs to work together by effective communication that helps in building relationship and bonding among the team members. The entire team along with me understood the significance of strong teamwork. Strong teamwork helps in identifying and understanding the potential challenges (Lorinkova, Pearsall & Sims, 2013). However, at certain times, conflicts raised as the team members had different viewpoints of doing a particular task. According to me, a leader needs to intervene and make sure the team members had respect for each other while performing as a team. At certain instances, the team encountered challenges and struggled in working towards the goal as they were easily diverted. I have also learned, as a leader, motivating the team members and helping them with proper guidance in achieving the actual objective of the team is the most crucial role (Krause & Semadeni, 2014). This helped the team members to build the ability for working together as a team in spite of challenges and hindrances.

The experience was useful for me, as this taught me the significance of teamwork and the impact of effective leadership. Firstly, the experience taught me the significant role of a leader in creating a vision for a team and guiding the entire team for achieving the vision. I have also learned that, the vision created by the leader helps in teaching the team members the significance of teamwork in achieving the vision. A team encounters various challenges while working towards the vision. According to me, a leader needs to provide the team members suitable and appropriate guidance to achieve the vision. The experience taught me that each individual is distinct from one another and have unique traits (Northouse, 2015). Therefore, I need to use the individual strengths of my team members rather than forcing them. The use of Belbin’s team role taught me the essence of dividing the roles among the team members according to their strengths. The independence and freedom of working in accordance with their strengths lead to successful completion of tasks. This eventually motivated the team members and enhanced their overall performance (Shepherd et al., 2014). Moreover, appraisal by the leader also motivates the team members, as they feel the contribution made by them towards achieving the vision is significant and valued.

Evaluating the effectiveness and usefulness of the event

I also learned while undertaking the course that while working as a team, effective communication is of utmost importance. Effective communication helps in the clear flow of information and helps in keeping track of the works completed and works that need to be done (Brock et al., 2013). The experience also taught me that conflicts are very common while working as a team as each team member has distinct perspectives. Therefore, conflicts eventually hampered the team motivation, working environment and the progress of the task. According to me, As a leader, intervention is essential to ensure that the team members have respect for each other while working together. Having respect for the team member creates a positive working environment and resolve conflicts (Fullan, 2014). I have also learned that a leader needs to encourage the team members to reduce the conflicts as working towards a particular goal is challenging both mentally and physically. The experience also taught me the significance of roles and responsibilities of a leader to accomplish a complex task (Tsai et al., 2012).

Conclusion

In this report, it can be concluded that both leader and team work plays a significant role in the successful completion of a task. A team encounters several challenges while working as a team in order to achieve the organisational goal and objectives. While undertaking the course, I have learned that, as a leader, it is essential to establish effective communication while working as a team. It is important for a leader to create a vision for the team and guided them through to achieve the vision successfully. Both the team members and I learned the significance of effective teamwork, roles and responsibilities and effective communication. Implementation of the aforementioned characteristics while working as a team helped achieving the vision and implementing the change successfully.
