How diversity impacts IBM
Diversity at the workplace has helped companies make the world a better place that people live in because of the new ideas from different cultures. One of the companies that have incorporated diversity is IBM Australia. The diversity of the employees at IBM has enabled the company to change the industries as well as give them new ways of doing business. The problems that exist in the world have been solved by the company thanks to diversity that is in the organization. The success of the company to compete with other businesses has depended on diversity and it has helped the company emerge top as compared to the other companies (Zaplatinskaia, 2009). The diversity in the company has been due to the equal opportunities that everyone is given at the company and therefore employees everyone according to merit and not on ethnicity, race, gender or country of origin.
The different people that exist at IBM have resulted from the company being keen when hiring them. The promotion and compensation of the employees is done in a transparent manner that makes all the staff love the company. This has made the company develop good relationships with its employees, customers, and other stakeholders. The diversity of thought created by the different groups of people that work at the company has helped in the creativity and innovation experienced in the company. Furthermore, diversity has enabled the company to solve the various problems that affect the customers (IBM Australia Limited, 2007). The talented employees that come from all around the globe have helped the company in gaining the experience of serving people from different countries and cultures.
IBM provides its employees with tools and working materials that make them help people from every race, gender, religion and ethnic group. This has helped the company have a global outlook, and therefore many customers love to associate with the company. Also, the company supports the different groups that work for the company such as women. The company supports women’s aspirations without requiring them to give up on their priorities. This involves giving women leadership roles and letting them become involved in the management of the company. The mentorship and professional development programs available at the company have made sure that women are mentored in the right way to become senior managers at the company (IBM, 2017). Also, the company has set up a flexible schedule for all the employees to ensure that they get time to deal with their person as well as professional goals.
People with disabilities are another group that has not been left behind by the company in advocating for cultural diversity. This is because the people with disabilities are from the diverse community that IBM serves. The company appreciates the growing number of persons with disability and hence has incorporated them into the company. The company gives the persons with disabilities specialized tools that ensure that they realize their full potential while working (IBM Australia Limited, 2015). In addition, the company has continued to change the structure of the offices to make sure that all the people can access them including persons with disability.
