This review will be a written response of no more than 1250 words and whilst you will have limited information and understanding of the other student’s context and challenges, you are to provide feedback in the following:
This assessment is designed for you to experience the challenges that managers face in thinking strategically, conceptually and analytically to create effective organisations and productive work environments. You will need to clearly communicate your ideas and critique the ideas of others. Assessment 3 is in two parts and this is Part B.
In Part A, the thinking focused on strategic issues from modules five and six in relation to management, people and teams, whilst forcing you to integrate the underlying principles discussed in earlier modules.
Management is a complex concept that needs more than basic knowledge in order to handle it effectively. Managers and organizations are finding it increasingly challenging to manage their organizations due to the changing cultural values, societal requirements, and employment policies. For this reason, there are various issues that can be of concern in regards to management, team and people in an organizational setup. This peer review looks into a critique a video on concepts of management and its applicability in the real-world scenarios. Particularly, the video talks about the challenges faced by organizations such as ethical issues, culture, and diversity.
The presentation raised substantially adequate theoretical concepts on the team, people management and how a given organisation can be able to integrate the three aspects collectively. Particularly the presenter offered insights on challenges most organizations face including, ethical issues, cultural diversity, and teamwork. Although there are more to be included in this category of management challenges organizations face, the inclusion of cultural diversity, ethical issues as well as workplace issues depicts a rich understanding of the presenter on concepts touching on management. Furthermore, the video also highlights the complexity of managing people in an organizational setup. However, no much information is attached to this issues. Ideally, people have different personalities and managing them or ensuring a perfect team is composed might be almost impossible in many instances (Allameh, Ansari & Rezaei, 2018).
Additionally, the level video also highlights the psychological impacts of people on adhering to the set regulations. Despite this being a factor that determines how well people work together and how easy it is for managers to handle them, the information presented on this issue seems to only lean on one side of the discussion. It is alleged that people’s psychological status, as well as reasoning ability, might define how employees interact in teams and in the workplace as well (Huhtala, Feldt, Hyvönen & Mauno, 2012). In this context, it can be argued that, although the presenter highlighted the concept of psychology and how it is intertwined with management, the discussion was only limited to how it affects innovation in an organisation. Generally, the concepts and theories related to management have been adequately included in the presentation and further relating it to the issue being discussed with a focus to Nepal.
Integration of Concepts and Appreciation of their Implications
For a management presentation to be effective and all-inclusive, different concepts need to be integrated. Concepts such as organisation culture, strategy, workplace relations, teamwork and personalities of the staff need to be critically evaluated and their impacts recognized. From the video presentation, the student has substantially integrated different concepts of management, team, and people to come up with an interesting view how the Nepal based institution had applied it and what implications the organisation felt. Particularly, the issue of organisation culture has been discussed as the pivot of any organisation that has a culturally diverse workforce.
However, the presentation fails to adequately address the different impacts the concepts have on the management of an organisation. For instance, whenever there are cultural differences, there is a probability of workplace conflicts or non-compatibility of team members (Anantatmula, 2010). Furthermore, the impact of personalities of employees in innovation and interaction with others can make it easier or complex for managers to effectively manage them and run the organisation successfully. Although there are other impacts highlighted in the presentation, the level of integration of the concepts and appreciation of the impacts it has on an organisation or management as a whole does not match.
Communication serves a significant purpose in any presentation of ideas either verbally or in written format. The tone of the presenter or author provides always provides an overview of his/her communication style (Bhatt, 2011). From the presentation, the student has actually maintained an organized communication style with the discussion of its concept being done separately. With the use of a transition phrases, the student was able to move from one issue to another while at the same time maintaining the context of the general discussion. Particularly, the discussion of various concepts on management was done to its entirety before focusing on team and people respectively.
Ideally, the student shows an assertive communication style by communicating his thoughts with confidence while maintaining eye contact. This style was effective in ensuring that the student discusses the various organizational challenges without necessarily stagnating on his thoughts. Nonetheless, the communication approach would need the student to have more content to discuss and not confine himself to a few concepts in regards to management.
Strengths of the Presentation
Based on the video presentation, it is apparent that the student had prepared enough before setting starts. This allowed him time to maintain eye-contact throughout the presentation and staying in context. It would have been difficult to continually focus on the same subject if there was lack of adequate preparedness on his part. Furthermore, the presentation was audible enough without any background noise that would have interfered with the communication process. It is due to the calmness of the environment from which the presentation was made that made it more steady and professional. Additionally, their background in the presentation was simple without any distracting objects on site making it easier for the viewers to only focus on the presentation. With such a quality, the efficiency of communication is guaranteed (Bhatt, 2011).
Areas of Development
Although the presentation was done almost perfectly and from an environment that is not distractive to the presenter and the viewer, there are two critical areas that need improvements. First, it is always better to have an introduction that not only states the topic to be covered but also highlights the key issues going to be discussed in the entire presentation. Secondly, the lighting in the room was deemed making the video dull. This could affect the viewer perception of the presentation or minimize interest in listening. If these areas are addressed, the student would have a better presentation in future.
With the increasing challenges, organization managers are facing, the need to apply management concepts have become mandatory. As revealed in the presentation, organizations need to have their own culture and a way of handling their issue for an effective management. Organizational change, workplace diversity, team and people management is increasingly becoming complex for managers to handle making it mandatory for a different theoretical approach to be implemented by organizations. Such could not be easier if there is limited information on what managers can do to have organizations function optimally. It is in this presentation that the student reveals how Nepal has a distinct approach to management and further recommends areas that can be improved to make the thing much better.
