You will develop a cover letter for a job in HRM, you will need to draw on your experiences and learning from throughout your HRM major to address the selection criteria, specifically using the Course (Major) Learning Outcomes (CLO). The STAR framework can be used to help you address the selection criteria. You will need to find a suitable advertised HR position online or use one that is provided to you to base your letter. The position must be one that a HR graduate could apply for within a year or two of graduation, with your experience. The cover letter will assist you to prepare for your video pitch (Part B). The job application letter will need to be 500-800 words in length.

You will present a reflective four to five-minute recording of your journey through the HRM major. The reflection will encapsulate your learning as relevant to HR, drawing on examples from within the major (and students’ extra-curricular activities such as internships, studies abroad etc), and discuss how the experience of the major had prepared you for a role in human resource management. This pitch should answer the question “why should we hire you”, and “what value do you have to offer our organisation”.Advice and guidance on the professional identity assessment will be provided in the seminars and on CloudDeakin.

Selection Criteria and Course Learning Outcomes

I came across the advertisement for the job role of Human Resource Delivery partner for your organization on a popular job website. I would like to express my deep interest in this job position. My name is Sanduni Liyanage and I am preparing for my last semesters in the course of bachelor of human resource management. In Australia, I am currently residing as a student and would like to further extend my stay by working for an esteemed organization such as yours. The Human resource management course that I have undertaken and continuing towards finishing has helped me to understand greatly about the functional aspects of human resource management. The various learnings that have emerged from this course is given to provide a more clear understanding of myself and my essential relationship with the profession of human resource.

A star framework can be used in order to provide a brief understanding of what I have been able to learn from the course. It consists of situation, task, action, result and the derived reflections.

The first thing is the situational aspect of HR. I have learnt that contemporary situation in the HR market is concerning the predominance of quality aspects. I have been able to garner the skills to tackle HR situations in effective manners. The ability to comprehend the exact requirements of situations help me to handle situations by comprehending the factors that affect the particular situation. The six situational need for HR presently are cost effectiveness, quality HR development, flexibility, vocational development, enlighten and development.

Concerning task, I have been able to gather essential knowledge about the tasks that an HR needs to fulfil. I have learned to handle tasks in effective manner. I have garnered skills that help me to perform many tasks at a given time. My multitasking ability can help me to effectively tackle the various roles that the .

HR organization would like me to take. The task of the HR manager is to also develop critical thinking and problem solving attitude (Brewster, Chung and Sparrow 2016). The roles of an HR delivery associate does not end at the recruitment stage of the candidates. It is a constant process that follows the development of a candidate throughout the employment. Critical thinking and problem solving attitudes go hand in hand. When the organization is facing significant problems with regards to employee motivation or job role allocation, it is up to the HR department to resolve the issues. The course has helped me to understand the exact times when effective thinking and implementing processes are required.

Organizations face many issues in relation to employee satisfaction. In these exact places it is important to create a platform for development of understanding between the organization and its employees. In these exact places the roles of an HR personnel are tested.

The third aspect is action. I will strive towards living up to the standards of the modern corporate scene, where an HR is required to be a person that can hold many responsibilities simultaneously. I will face these kinds of challenges in the organization I will be working for. Hence, it is important to understand the actions that are required. The job roles in the HR department are likely to require data management, presentation and interactive functions with candidates and communicational requirements with the various department of an enterprise (Albrecht et al. 2015). The company will require a dynamic person in this situation and I am definitely suitable for the responsibilities. I am capable of coordinating with the managers and helping them to implement HR policies across the organization.

Using the STAR Framework

The last aspect of the STAR framework is result. The entire learnings I was able to derive will be most importantly implemented at this stage. I will be able to provide concrete and effective results to your organization if I am recruited in the position of the HR delivery partner. I will accomplish all the goals that will be set before me through effective teamwork. Moreover, I will definitely strive towards living up to the expectation of the global corporate citizenship and the conduct that is necessary to optimally be effective in my work.

I am willing to work in a team and apply the things that I have been able to learn from my course. Moreover, I would like to grow with the team and become an effective member. Global citizenship requires an HR manager to be honest and establish integrity (Brewster, Chung and Sparrow 2016). I will be looking forward to working in the organization in order to both learn and contribute towards the learning of my peers and subordinates in the organization.

I would like to be a part of your esteemed organization. Hence, I would like to request the arrangement of an interview on the 30/11/2018. I will be looking forward to your speedy reply.

Video Pitch

Hello my name is Sanduni Liyanage and I am a last year student of bachelor of Human Resource Management. I have always been interested in the functions of human resource associates in various organizations. I am hoping to work for a large organization and extend my stay in Australia. I was attracted to this job position and wanted to do something to gain significant expertise in the subject in order to realize my life goals. I am very privileged to have been part of this course and this has been a remarkable journey throughout. ‘30 sec

The major has been especially important for me as I have been able to learn all the important concepts associated with human resource management functions. The first thing I was able to learn was the wide scope of human resource management. Human resource are not only the department that looks after the recruitment functions of an enterprise but their functions go beyond merely being recruiters. I learnt that HR managers have to look after the employees after they have been absorbed into the organizational process after the induction.

Moreover, the functions of the HR department towards enhancing the relationships between the organization and the people that are the most important to its operational success was effectively taught through this course. I understood that human resources was a multifaceted endeavour. It encompasses almost everything that governs the relationship between employees and the organization. The functions of the HR encompass new recruitment, job safety, employee relations, employee benefits and remuneration, compliance with the labour laws and training and development of the employees. 60 sec

I came to understand the theories related to cost-effectiveness in which the pay scale offered to employees should be made in accordance to the maximum cost the company can bear on each employee. The theory of leveraging potential helped to understand that organizations have to make employees bear work load that is bearable and fix goals that are achievable. I learnt that this is a function of an organization that can help a person to effectively understand how the organization really works. I have learnt the various aspects that are related to the organization and the workload that people associated with it have to bear in order to achieve success in the corporate scenario.

30 sec

The next most important elements that I was able to learn was through the extra-curricular activities such as the internships that I took. This was a very important part of my learning experience according to me. This is because from a majorly theoretical perspective this was a venture into the more practical aspects of human resource. I began to understand that this was the actual place where all the theories and learnings actually can start to make sense. However, there were other things that could never have been learnt through bookish knowledge.

The internships helped me to develop greater understandings of the job responsibilities that I would have to take in my future corporate life. At first it was difficult to make sense of all the things learnt through the course. However, I was able to quickly adapt and implement whatever I have been able to learn in my internships. This was necessary because I did not want to face a similar fear when I actually ventured in permanent, more demanding job roles. Moving forward I was able to garner enough ground level knowledge about the human resource functions to be able to understand how I can apply the same to real time scenarios. 120 sec

I have been able to learn not only as a student of this course but also as a person that was very much enthusiastic to know about the human resource process. I am confident of effectively taking most of the job responsibilities that may come in my way in the organization I will be working for. Although I cannot say that I will be a perfect employee from the beginning. The knowledge that I have gained will help me to become an effective employee in a very short period of time. I will strive towards further growth and will help the organization to grow at the same time.

I believe my prospects for success are bright as I have learnt and experienced much in regards to the human resource professions. I can help the organization as a whole as I will be committed towards my duties, my colleagues, my subordinates and all the people that I will come across in my organization.
