The purpose of this assignment is to assess skills in working with Enterprise Architecture (EA) and understanding of EA frameworks and strategy.

 

This assessment addresses the following ULOs:
a. Design enterprise-level architectural views for the business, information, technology, and application domains
b. Report on the relationship between EA and other architectures such as system, solution, data, application and technology
c. Investigate the appropriate use of industry EA methods and frameworks
d. Report on the current and future state for a portfolio of IT applications
e. Develop a roadmap process for the IT portfolio to support longterm business strategy

Introduction

In the world, Hewlett-Packard (HP) leads in providing enterprise and consumer services, products, solutions, and technology. In the United States, HP Company is one of the five hundred fortune companies every year as it is among the largest corporations. Hp Company provides services such as printing, personal computing, imaging, access devices, spanning IT framework and international services [1]. The report will describe the situation of the HP Company, its strategy map, the Zachman framework; it will also highlight how enterprise architecture works and its frameworks and strategy.

Identification

HP Company as a global company has a goal of raising shareholder value and it will achieve this by looking for a better scale to increase the impact of business lines and efficiency. As it increases its size geographically the more difficult and complex its isolated operations become and it’s the main challenge which came up when Compaq merged with HP [2]. Other challenges include; consolidating both firms business to diminish complexity, to attain economies of large-scale, reduce the cost of IT systems business and enhance its consumer experience of technology. The process of integration includes a physical blend of Compaq and HP facilities, resources, and people and its national in nature [3]. It has a good reputation as a unified company with high performance. HP Norway’s business culture required a change to cement its organizational core values.

Analyze

HP’s company core values are to establish a shared management team, restricting its processes and functions hence to achieve the values it merged with Compaq. The core values and standards have enabled HP Company to grow its business for over forty-five years. Another key factor in boosting its growth of business it is its ability to neglect duties and responsibilities to its employees, customers, and shareholders. The executives of HP Company emphasize employee behavior and understand the importance of change to achieve its vision of controlling all its marketplace. The executives also realize the challenge of convergence came up after it merged its people and resources with Compaq hence having a new joint without the ability to manage effectively.

To ensure during relocation its consolidation momentum will not be shaken the company sought assistance from Accenture. HP Company chose to seek assistance from Accenture to be helped to leverage and identify ways that will enhance its performance all over its operation areas. Accenture led to successful execution in the record of the project hence playing an important part in the success of HP’S decision making [4]. The success of the organizational change depends on the comprehension of its business, entire technology industry and values and HP’s extensive abilities in developing technologies and resources. For HP’s Norway integration process to succeed, its operational companies should uphold an outer focus and serve the customers diligently. Accenture has a group which assists companies to manage, design and implements successful events.

Hewlett-Packard with the help of Accenture created and launched web-based review which is customized to enable employees to unveil the cultural identity and differences between the former employees of Compaq and of HP and their attitudes toward integration and the areas with potential risks.  The main enterprise architecture’s objective is to combine HP’s IT environment for its specialty units with advantageous connections of its systems and business. Another objective is to advance institutionalization, arrangement, accessibility, and reuse of IT materials and allotment of strategies to improve programming and venture administration. Enterprise architecture will make IT more vital, cheap and more responsive.

Design

Enterprise architecture defines the operation and structure of a company. Its intent is to determine how companies can use effective means t achieve its objectives. Architects help HP build models and solve its management troubles scientifically.

Zachman framework

Zachman framework is an important enterprise architecture structure which provides a structured and formal way of defining and viewing an organization. Zachman framework enables HP Company to enlarge its theoretical and technical skills to succeed in this 21st century. Following this framework, HP Company is seeking employees and consultants who can help it show command and the best results across the broad knowledge spectrum [5]. The plan uses a unique component which is learning based on reality and also a combination of work experience and theory. The designs of the Zachman framework are practical and enable HP’s enterprise architecture to enhance their general skills and broaden their industry trends comprehension.  

Zachman framework offers professional certification to HP that offers increased market ableness and career progression. A framework is also a tool helping HP Company to improve internal and external measurement standards of performance, improve market position and set recruitment standards [6]. The framework graphics describe the plan artifacts making up the connection of the viewpoints used in the design process, called the HP, and the product abstraction.  It describes the principle of enterprise architecture design, where components are interrelated, timing diagram, engineering design goals and the work of operator instructor. The company utilizes other observable artifacts for scoping motives and implementation. Implementers and planners incorporate frame graphics on display.

The strategic map shows all current and future organizational strategy hence all employees can understand them and where they fit. The HP’s framework of enterprise architecture uses logical configuration to organize and categorize its descriptive representations for enterprise systems and management, manual and automation systems [7]. It derives the enterprise architecture from similar structures in the disciplines of engineering and architecture which organizes and classifies artifacts generated when manufacturing and designing its hard physical products. Zachman framework brings a lot of advantages to HP Company as modern enterprise favors it. One of the advantages is that the Zachman framework is that the modern society accepts it because of its excellent standards for designing and developing enterprise architecture [8]. HP adopts the Zachman framework to guide its development process of enterprise architecture. The enterprise architecture conveys the business model to many stakeholders including its developers. It engages all stakeholders hence improving professional exchange in the frameworks of the information network [9]. The strategic map improves customer and worker satisfaction as it maintains a consistent profile to them. HP Norway has good execution which enables its economic benefits. HP’s successful integration reduces time spent on internal processes and improves communications.

Conclusion

Zachman framework is an enterprise structure which gives a structure and formal way of defining and viewing enterprise. The framework intersects the former historical categories which were applied before. Enterprise architecture involves enterprise preparation, plan, analysis and implementation.  Enterprise architecture shapes the very technical, complex and methodological problems and choices within HP Company. With the aid of the Zachman framework, HP has adopted an integrated an approach to develop and implement its strategic map. Enterprise architecture provides principles and practices to guide HP through data, process, technology changes, business, and strategies [10]. The main aim of developing the strategic map is to implement its strategies which are; maximize shareholder value, inspire customer loyalty, improve customer satisfaction, create high-quality products and partnerships to maximize operational effectiveness and foster employee skills.
