The motivation for examining the strategic potential of Swinburne IS research is to understand the potential industry impact of Swinburne IS research and how this could affect the market position of Swinburne University relative to its competitors (ie. The ability of Swinburne to attract IS students).

You will explore how Swinburne IS research can affect industry structure and attractiveness by assisting Swinburne University to defend itself against forces such as new entrants.

Introduction

Swinburne is a university found in Australia and it is recognized for its quality education that is offered to the students. The university has been awarded higher ratings for the general graduate satisfaction, the teaching staff of the university has also maintained its quality and generic skills (Bedggood and Donovan 2012). The university has a highly dedicated staff and the teachers provide education of the highest standards, the aspect has made most students to choose Swinburne an appropriate institution for their higher education.

The ability of Swinburne to attract IS students

The university’s Information Systems for Social Impact Research Group explores the issues that the society faces. Currently the university’s IS4SI group focusses on the application of process-driven solutions and innovative technology to empower, assist, advance and aid people and communities. The IS4SI research Group members have planned on various project ideas which are: Distilling and re-conceptualizing IT variables for the social impact, converting data into measurements that are meaningful for the purpose of social organizations that is the CSI Swinburne with Bankwest project and helping with the ICT delivery program in schools located in the Indian villages with the application of the Library box (Hallam, 2012). Organizing Digital Classes in tribal schools within India, enhancing the digital literacy of refugee women within Dandenong and de-radicalization via the online support systems are the other projects planned by the members of the IS4SI Research group in Swinburne university. The Swinburne university’s IS Group research about developing digital classes in indigenous Indian sets has been of great success as the program has enabled many students to be able to acquire education irrespective of their background (Hallam, 2012).

Conclusion

Swinburne University has various strategies of gaining a larger student population than its competitors in Australia due to the effectiveness of the university’s education and the strategies put forward in running the institution. The university has also focused on improving the participation of the students in the forums of decision-making within the university (Hazelkorn, 2008). The purpose of the strategy is to enhance the voice of the student at any level both allow or high socio-economic status through the creation of student consultation models, and this is the reason behind the rapid increase of the university’s population both online and within the institution.
