Leadership can be understood as the art of motivating people to achieve the goals. Leaders is often characterized by establishing a clear vision, which then leads to sharing the vision with others and make them follow it out of their own will, provide information and knowledge required to realize the vision and in the end take care of all the conflicts among the team members, coordinate with the stakeholders and balance the entire business process (Antonakis, 2017)
In the present context, being a supervisor of High school, I have been facing some challenges, which are as follows:
- Reporting late to work
- Lack of eye to detail
- Communication barrier (Arabic)
I have been in various leadership positions in the past, I have led the administration department and the science department in my previous job. My strengths include paying attention to details, good communication skill, ability to see through the problems and coming to a logical conclusion before deciding anything. Every person has some weaknesses; I believe my weakness lies when I get emotionally carried away with the problems, that at times come in a way while logically arriving at the conclusion.
In order to combat the above challenges, I am going forward with SMART goals:
S-Specific
M-Measurable
A-Attainable
R-Realistic
T-Time based
Note: Hiring of a Language trainer
Specific
|
Reach to school before 8 AM, due diligence in the work and focus on the language training being imparted
|
Measurable
|
Attendance register for the attendance and time
Daily assessment for language test
Weekly evaluation of the teacher by me, one to one meeting
|
Assignable

|
Realistic
|
Improve in attendance and adherence to time is realistic and measurable
Learning language in a period of 3 months is attainable and a realistic goal
Evaluation of the teacher by me on the basis of daily activities is essential and realistic.
|
Time-related
|

Language barrier -3 month
Evaluation- Daily basis followed by the feedback.

- Goal setting: It is one of the most important function of leadership , goal setting will help the employee in understanding the destination he has to reach, so that he himself can set small milestones for himself personally in order to achieve those goals (Northouse, 2015)
- Motivation: The important facet of leadership, a true leader is one who understand the importance of motivation and leaves no stone unturned in order to keep his staff motivated. For my school staff, I have thought of giving monetary benefits if the teacher is on time to school for 3 months, with an accuracy of 90%, this monetary benefit will motivate him to fulfil his psychological needs (MASLOW) and he will push himself to be on time to school every day. In order to remove the language barrier, they have to be made understood of their professional growth after mastering the English language, creating a situation of Win-Win for them (Miner, 2015)
- Feedback: To have an effective leadership, the leader must and should not shy away from his important responsibility of providing feedback. I have personally set an agenda for myself, sit with my teachers once in a week, evaluate their performance and give them feedback on the same. Feedback has a dual role to play, it will help the teachers to analyse the area to focus, their flaws, and how can they improve themselves, at the same time, they will feel empowered knowing the school cares for them and giving them the opportunity to learn and grow (Robertson, 2016)
In my opinion, if I am able to motivate them with the benefits of the goals set for them, they will put in their heart and soul to achieve the SMART goals and thus improve the condition of the school and create an atmosphere of great learning.
