Select two papers from the articles listed in the assessment tile on LMS. You will need to locate the full text of the papers. These papers should then be critiqued and an essay written in which you compare and contrast the two research articles by:

1.Describing the paper’s aim, method, results and conclusions, and

2.Discussing the internal validity, external validity, and measurement validity or rigor/trustworthiness of each paper.

Background Information

The following is a research critique of two primary source of research. The critique juxtaposes the two research articles and makes deductions based on the findings referring to other sources of academic reference. Manias et al., (2015) complete a study titled “Complexities of Medicines Safety: Communicating about Managing Medicines at Transition Points of Care across Emergency Departments and Medical Wards.” The study explores communication between patients, members of the family and health professionals about the management and the administration of medication. The study is mainly centered on two Australian public hospitals upon the points of transition. The study employs the use of qualitative description to gather data for research. Gill et al., (2012) compile a study titled, “An Exploration of Pediatric Nurses' Compliance with a Medication Checking and Administration Protocol”. The study explored the rate of compliance and non-compliance of nurses to the administration of medication. It uses the mixed methods design for collection of data and incorporates a questionnaire.

Nursing ethics refers to the principles concerning the distinctions between what is right and wrong or good and bad behaviors. An action is right or wrong to the extent. In a research the authors focus on what is rationally acceptable for a student, the way they behave in school and outside school and how it is affected by nursing ethics (Aitken et al. 2015). The personal life such as sleeping patterns, how they relate with. The study is based on a research topic, The Effect of nursing ethics on the Morality of the youth in Campus.  The research was conducted at the University and the respondents who were picked through stratified sampling are from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology (Battié, 2013). The total number of the respondents was 30 in number. The main method of data collection that was used for this particular was used of questionnaires. The target audience was the youth aged between 18 and 25 years. These according to the results of the questionnaires formed 86.7% of the respondents even after picking them at random.

The questionnaires covered the main areas in the research that are related to the topic. These are the areas such as, the exposure of the students to the nursing ethics, the general effect of nursing ethics and then nursing ethics and morality. These were all covered to bring out various results that were analyzed in chapter four to make the conclusion in chapter five (Boyle, 2017). Out of the 30 students who made up the sample, 100% were familiar with nursing ethics platforms while 53.3% were using social media, which is a form of nursing ethics (World Health Organization , 2018). The number of those who admitted to have been affected by use of nursing ethics outnumbered those who were not by 1.75%; therefore, the higher percentage had experienced the effects of nursing ethics.

Methodology

The respondents admitted gave some of the areas of effects such as using nursing ethics at the expense of sleeping, relying on it for making decision, being carefree in the use of words since it was virtual media, and finding it hard to keep one on one conversation among others (Mukasa, 2015). The information given here is represented in the fourth chapter of this project using tables and figures such as graphs and pie charts. The conclusion is given in the same project and recommendations too (Merrifield, 2016). There were challenges during the research period. Some of the respondents took too long to return the questionnaires even after constant reminders and phone calls. The research also came with many financial implications having for both the project and communication to get all the things put together.

The results of the study showed that nursing ethics had played a great role in promoting the moral decadence among the youth in campus by construction of social reality and spread of the same. It has also indirectly contributed to the same by providing a means by which those who have ideas of social evil could have it accomplished (Manias et al. 2015). Nursing ethics refers to the forms of media that give alternative information from what is provided by the mainstream media. The information in the former differ from the dominant type in terms of their content, they give more each other especially those of the opposite gender. Refers to when these moral codes or principles are violated (Grant, 2016). This will include behavior such as drug abuse, illicit sex, missing classes, rudeness, and use of vulgar language as well as dressing and sleeping patterns and interpersonal skills. Nursing ethics due to its global influence allows other attitudes, cultures, and approaches (Lakea, et al., 2017). This has led to cropping up of many truths. News in nursing ethics is implied leading to subjectivity in news reporting.

Professionalism is not as respected as it was. As long as one is earning that is all what is required of them to scale up the height of good pay in the media field. Money which has been considered the root of all evil has really killed the society. It has become the focus of everyone and the core of every decision (Merrifield, 2016). Not as many use the money, in most cases, money has used people. With money, there has emerged casual sex, bribes, oppression of the poor and socials evils of all sorts. Due to many legal pitfalls, which are there for the mainstream media, the communicators tend to venture into nursing ethics where they have more freedom in reporting (Aitken, Dunning, & Manias, 2015). This means that some people who solely depend on mainstream media for information miss important angles of the story. In this current time and age, there is increased advancement in technology. There also is a notable decline of moral standards of beings (Battié, 2013). The emergence of multimedia communication has greatly affected the way information is shared between individuals. It has led to transition between the old form of communication to a newer and more developed media.

Results and Analysis

This poses a challenge to the journalists. They tend to be too cautious to avoid any legal pitfalls at the expense of details that are essential and of human interest. Too much caution makes them forego objectivity in reporting (World Health Organization , 2018). Some people end up losing their jobs when they are termed to be too liberal and are not aligned to the media in-house policies and political ideologies (Mukasa, 2015). The struggle for journalists to remain politically correct makes them subject to their sources especially those who are of great influence to the media houses such as the politicians and the media owners. The media houses end up making rules which in a way contribute to self-censorship affecting their own employees and many times breeding malice and subjectivity (Lakea, et al., 2017). Not many people and most especially the youth who are liberal like this kind of journalism where there is too much regulation, the mainstream, they therefore get refuge in the lesser controlled nursing ethics.

It is possible for the nursing ethics users to disregard any form of scrutiny however; responsibility in media usage is paramount. Sometimes responsibility by the media houses many times breeds self-censorship. In such cases then the media personalities form rules that affects them greatly (Aitken et al, 2015). We believe technical progress must be accompanied by a sensitive concern for values and ethics. The two demonstrate how the development in technology is directly linked to the moral development (Grant, 2016). A discussion about nursing ethics is inevitable in the current age and time. This topic directly affects journalism students and practitioners as well. Students in campuses rely on publications of other people to come up with their own research work.

They use already published materials for their assignments and term papers. The sources of this information are mostly internet sources. To journalists it includes different media platforms inclusive of the nursing ethics ones. Some of the sites may be misleading not only to journalism students but also to practicing journalists who might be depending on such sites to develop their own features. These cases have become rampant in our society today as those who publish produce any information without any caution. To find out the root cause of this moral decadence, this paper will link morality of the students in campus to what they easily and daily interact with and that is the nursing ethics. Absolute rules do not offer useful solutions to conflicts in values. What is needed is wisdom and restraints, compromise and tolerance, and as wholesome a respect for the dignity of the individual as the respect accorded the dignity of science. This is what makes restrictions in the media industry not to work.

Implications and Conclusions

The two studies compile research and information that details the nurse’s role in patient care. People will try to find alternative means of finding information even if it means doing away with the old mainstream media. This consequently makes nursing ethics gain audience who sometimes end up misusing it. Ethics, which relates to morality, is defined by the two as guidelines and principles that help us uphold our values to decide which goals of research are most important and to reconcile values and goals that are in conflict. Blogs are trending and almost everyone can own one at no cost. Due to the ease of accessing these platforms, posting and editing of the posts it is easy to be subjective. This also makes the authors of different blog posts to expose them too much since there is no limit to what they can post. This in a great way can translate to a security threat as one can be traced even at their exact location.
