Introduction
Project management can be defined as a process that ensures that the project is implemented according to the project plan. Therefore, it is needed to choose a proper project management methodology that will provide the project manager with a unique approach of managing the project goals. Project management is an important consideration of any organization as it helps in managing the different processes associated with a project. This course has helped me in understanding the critical concepts related to project management and the process by which the project management can help in easier implementation of a particular project (Caniëls & Bakens, 2012). This consolidated portfolio will reflect upon the learning outcomes that have been covered in this course and will help in understanding the reason why organizations adopt project management methodologies (Kerzner, 2017). Stakeholders are an important part of any project or organization and therefore, the choice of a project management methodology has a significant impact on the stakeholders of the organization.
Course Learning Outcomes
Explain reasons why organisations adopt Project Management Methodologies
Summary
The participation in this course has helped me in evaluating the need of project management methodologies in the organizations. The adoption of the project management methodologies is important for the organizations. Project irrespective of its size can only be successful if the management of the project is right. In the very first week of the course, we have been introduced with the concept of project management which is reflected in the portfolio 1. This is the main reason why organizations adopt the project management methodologies for management of their project (Doloi, 2012). The use of project management methodology is important for the organizations that aim in increasing the operational business strategies of the organization (Fleming & Koppelman, J2016).
With the increase in complexities of the project, many projects are not suited for the traditional SDLC approach as the end product and the complete specifications of the project cannot be determined easily. Therefore, the need of project management methodologies arise in case of complex projects as well.
Evidence
The idea about the need of project management methodologies in the different organization is gained from the learning of week 1 2 and 3 that is reflected in the portfolios of those weeks.
Critically analyse the impact of Project Management Methodologies upon stakeholders
Summary
In this course I have gained an understanding of the importance of stakeholders in an organization or a project. The choice of project management methodologies therefore has a huge impact on the stakeholders of an organization or a project (Beringer, Jonas & Kock, 2013). Stakeholder management is critical in ensuring the success of the project. Management of medium to large sized project needs proper stakeholder management as goals of the project are generally set by the stakeholders of the project (Heagney, 2016).
This course has helped me in understanding the process of effective management and involvement of stakeholders in a project. The experiences I have gathered while attending this course is reflected in the portfolios of week 2, week 4 and week 10.
Evidence
I have observed that stakeholders are considered to be very important in any project or organization and therefore, the need of keeping the stakeholders engage with the project is essential as well. The experience that I have gained about the project stakeholders and the impact of project management methodology on the stakeholders is reflected in the portfolio of week 4 and week 10. Since the choice of project management methodology determines the process by which a particular project will be executed, the project stakeholders have a huge impact on the choice of project management methodology.
Explain and justify the major elements of a Project Management Methodology that might meet the needs of an organisation
Summary
The significant elements of project management methodology that can help in meeting the needs of the organization include proper evaluation of scope, setting up of a realistic goal and completing the project within a scheduled time (Devi & Reddy, 2012).
A project management methodology helps in ensuring that the project is following a planned approach of implementation. The choice of project management methodology is therefore critical. I have gained a knowledge about the different components of a project management methodology while attending this course. Team members and project managers are important component of project management methodology as well since these components ensure the success of a project.
Evidence
The knowledge about the project management methodologies are reflected in the portfolio of week 1 and week 8. While working as an intern in a company that deals with software, I have learnt about the different components of project management methodology, and the importance of project management methodology in ensuring project success.
Discussion and Conclusion
Throughout 12 weeks of learning about project management methodologies, I have understood the fundamental knowledge behind the use of different project management methodologies in ensuring the success of the project (Dybå, Dingsøyr & Moe, 2014). The entire course has helped in gaining a considerable knowledge about the use of project management methodology and the impact of project management methodologies on the stakeholders of the project. This course has helped me in understanding the different elements of project management methodologies that can be used in successful execution of the project.
