). The only question that I would be asking to each of these people who are themselves public figures and whom people look up to as leaders and scholars would be “Why do you think public education is so important and is the need for the same increasing? If so, then why?”
As a student I could only expect their probable answer to be that education in any form whether conventional or not is very important and people are increasingly focusing on the importance of public education as it is more convenient and a greater section of people in any country can avail basic and public education easily. This will help on education bigger mass of people and hence promote greater equality, innovation and improvement if the overall quality of life.
). There are no such amendments in the constitution that speak about education at the federal level. In fact, it is the local and state governments that are vested with the responsibility and power of deciding on the subject of education and lastly the individuals or parents have the full authority and power to decide on the same. The department of education in the states is also unconstitutional as education is not one of the powers allocated to the Federal Government in the States.
). All of the educationists mentioned in the list above were ardent and true believers of public education and preached about the importance of knowledge and long term vision. They all either were for public education or formulated policies and practices that helped out the poor and the less privileged population of America to read, gain knowledge and get educated. Ben Franklin himself received hardly any formal education while Truman proposed the concept of “Fair Deal” where everyone should receive fair chances of getting educated. Noah Webster on the other hand proposed means of providing education to the poor through setting up of libraries in schools.
). The educational patterns slightly differ from each other in the three regions mentioned in the question. This means that there is quiet an ambiguity that prevails in the educational system across various regions of the United States. The form of education departed in the New England is more of public rather than private as public institutions have been formed for higher education since earlier decades as compared to the other two regions. The Mid Atlantic region also houses quite a great number of public and private schools, however, the proportion of private school is slightly higher than that of public schools as the outcomes from students of private schools has been deemed to be better than the students of public schools. The southern states have the highest number of public schools and maximum of the low income students in the States get enrolled as a majority in the southern state public schools.
). The contribution of each of the factors towards public education is very significant. These factors are also in turn impacted by the educational policies and practices in different schools and educational institutions. In the early days of Colonial America, for example, Bible formed an important and n fact the only source of education in churches and educational institutions. It still continues to be taught but with lesser vigor and force. The local economy earlier was not benefited as much due to educational practices as it is benefitted with a direct and large impact now. The more the educated professionals, the more the means of innovation and work, the more the revenues generated and gross domestic product earned. The religious practices would in fact help promote educational equality across the rich and the poor through education in churches and now even though this impact has reduced, it still continues to be a source of educational equality provider in America as well as other parts of the world.
). American teachers are increasingly being expected to impart education that is integrated at the global level instead of focusing on the needs and requirements o the country. It is very important for the teachers to focus on the need of the hour, that is to promote education in such a way that even the less privileged population can develop skills and improvise ways in which they can bring out the best in them and hence improve and bring about growth of income for the country as a whole. Teachers are expected to teach at the global level so that brings about the view of internationalism in students unlike before.
). Due to introduction of this initiative and scheme, all the schools in the different states introduced systems and frameworks to meet the scores and standards of education proposed by the local and state governments. All the different states adopted the standards of academic excellence and made the Common Core State Standards a part of their framework to make sure that the students from all economic levels could improve their economic skills and standards. However, the implementation of these schemes did not really bring about positive changes in the variables of educational and economic growth.
). The concept of per pupil funding will only help every student to aim at reaching better and more difficult objectives and extend the limitations and barriers in terms of financial reasons and exposure and knowledge and skill development opportunities. With funding for each student, they will be able to take up courses without any hesitation and achieve outcomes by focusing on their strengths and working on their weaknesses. It will provide students with better motivation and encouragement and help them to take up challenges that they were earlier not confident about.
). The demographic shifts in America suggest that maximum population of students in America are from the lower income sections and cannot afford the most formal and private education systems. So if enough public educational institutions and policies are not developed, the country will not be able to reach the required statistics in terms of indicators of National Income and Growth.
). As a secretary of education, my first and foremost step would only be to nationalize ad standardize the concept of education as a whole and set goals for the national educational institutions as a whole. The public schools would be provided with increased fund and global level of education is to be provided to them. Also, such students and scholars who have received education from public schools should be enforced to implement training and workshops for betterment and should report to the government about the probable improvements of students and limitations that can be bettered.
