Established in 1948, the City of Gold Coast is the second largest local government area in Australia, spanning the Gold Coast, Queensland and the surrounding areas. The metropolitan region is situated in the east coast of the country and is famous for its beaches, inland canals, beautiful waterways and wildlife. Every year the city attracts 12 million tourists and nearly 12,000 new residents, thereby becoming one of the fastest growing cities of the country [7]. 


The City of Gold Coast, has a sprawling coastline of 57 kilometers and is famous for many beautiful beaches; Burleigh Heads Beach, Surfer’s Paradise Beach, Coolangatta Beach are the most famous ones [2]. Apart from these long sandy beaches, the city also has several spellbinding natural walkways, which falls in the city’s primary tourist attraction spots

The O'Reilly's Tree Top Walk, a 180 meters walkway comprising of nine suspension bridges, give the visitors one of a kind view of vast rainforest flora, while the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk takes the visitors through the pristine beauty of the vast rainforests. The City of Gold Coast is also famous for its renowned theme parks like Sea World, Dreamworld and Wet’n’Wild and has provisions of surfing and inland hiking, with a breathtaking hiking trail. The Hinterland, located in the rural parts of the city, has various theme parks and beautiful walkways for recreations of tourists [6].

 Amenities in Gold Coast

The City of Gold Coast, apart from its variety of walkways, beaches and fun-filled adventurous events, provides various facilities for its visitors and residents, which attracts a huge number of people to visit or stay back every year. Known for its cleanliness and proper maintenance, the city provides a wide network of walkways, a variety of hotels in all price ranges, plush shopping centers, budget eateries as well as signature restaurants like Hellinika. Situated in Nobby Beach, with signature dishes like slow bake lamb shoulder or grilled octopus and both luxury[2]. The city is well connected by a network of public transports like Gold Coast Light Rail, bus, shuttles and cabs [1].


The Gold Coast Airport (Coolangatta Airport) has a unique location in between the borders of NSW and Queensland and is the one of the very few airports in the world with just a 750 meters distance from the beach. The airport handles national as well as international flights from Asia and New Zealand. The city is also accessible by trains, trams and buses [4].  

Ancillary Services

The city provides vast range of community services like sporting grounds, parks, gardens, roads, libraries and community centers. The city also maintains a strict and regular discipline regarding collection of wastes and their proper disposal to maintain overall hygiene and cleanliness [8]. There are 42 community centers and 15 libraries. It also has a vast network of storm water drainage to prevent water clogging during heavy monsoons [4]. Several prestigious universities and many standard schools are there along with adequate hospital facilities for easy access to quality education and healthcare.
