SOCU 2017 Understanding Globalisation

Part 1

Ian Johnson in the article entitled “With Vatican Talks and Bulldozers, China Aims to Control Christianity” discusses the various matters that are related to the acknowledgement of the papal authority over the various churches within the territorial boundaries of China. The article was composed on the 24^th of September, 2018 and was published in the newspaper entitled The New York Times.

Part 2

The major aspect that is discussed within the given article is the acknowledgement of the papal authority over the various churches within the territorial boundaries of China. The article aims to discuss the control over the Christians who have been residing within the Chinese territories by the government of China (Johnson, 2018).

The event in discussion has been taking place in the country of China and is reported in the city of Beijing. The events that have been discussed in the article would majorly affect the Christians who have been residing within the country of China since the spread of the religion in the country in the sixteenth century (Johnson, 2018). The people who have been residing in the country will be majorly affected by the decision. The decision might hamper the existence of the underground churches wherein the Chinese Catholics have been offering their prayers.

Part 3

I personally feel that the concerned decision on the part of the Chinese government would affect the Chinese Catholics in various ways. The shutting down of the underground churches would assist the improvement in the government surveillance on the activities of the residents of the country. this event has helped me understand the importance of the government surveillance on the control of terrorism and other such activities.
