Introduction:
My favorite sport is Basketball. Basketball has been very popular and one of the most viewed games in the world. With the popularity of players like LeBron James and Michael Jordon, Basketball has caught the attention of both teenagers and millennials. But the age factor does not restrict the viewership, people of all ages.
The reason why I love basketball among all the other games is the number of health benefits it involves. The game is known to be a great calorie burner as it involves running, jumping and quick movements while playing. An hour of basketball can burn around 630 to 750 calories (State of Victoria, 2017). It also helps to build cardiovascular endurance, which means it keeps the heart healthy and minimizes the risk of heart diseases. It also helps to develop and coordination and stay focused towards the basketball goals. It also sharpens the reflexes as the game is very quick and requires instant reaction.
Apart from the health benefits basketball helps to develop team coordination and make new friends. You learn to put the interest of the team first and your personal interest secondary. Basketball is a beautiful game and is played by all the age groups and even by the people who are not physically abled. The game does not know discrimination from a black to white the game is for everyone and loved by all. The game can be played around the year as it as an indoor game. The game does not require a professional setup as it can be easily played at home by setting up a hoop in the garden. The game does not involve any expensive gear and equipment’s unlike other games like football or cricket. Basketball is a great stress buster, for individual who are into colleges, schools or in the corporate field, a game of basketball helps to release the mental stress (HealthDay, 2014).
Conclusion:
Basketball is my favorite sport as it involves many health benefits and boosts the immunity system. It also helps to increase coordination among team members and increases self-confidence. The basketball reflects the true sportsman spirit and a game loved by all.
