STST3003 Honeypots And Overcoats

Honey pots are the computer application or the system that attracts the cyber attackers to attack in the system. This helps to study the nature and type of cyber security attack.

Honey pots are emerging techniques and are used by many organization. However, the use of honey pots for maintaining the security is  questionable issue in the context of the legal usage.

However, using honey pots seems ethical as it helps in maintaining the security of the system. The vulnerabilities of the organization’s security system can be identified using honey pots (Wang et al.,2017). It also helps the network administrators to build better defense mechanism against the current threats. This will help the organizations to response better in case of prevention of security threats.

There are counter arguments regarding the use of honey pots in the security system. According to the counter argument, the usage of the honey pots are illegal and unethical as the usage of honey pots are exposing the security system of the organizations to the intruders  (Shulman,Cherny & Dulce,2017). Apart from that there is a possibility that the usage of honey pots may not work, as the intruders may be aware of the presence of honey pots in the system.

However, considering all the counter arguments , it can be said that the usage of the honey pots are legal as it helps the organization to detect the security threats. The identification of the security threats will help the organization to modify and improvise the security system. Considering all the factors , it can be said that using honey pots should be implemented in the security system of the organization.
