Assumption is made that this group has received a contract from Coles Supermarket as a group of self-governing professional advisors to help with getting effective solution to the problem pitting the Supermarket with the workers. The problem has been precipitated by Coles refusing to enhance the penalty rates for employees despite Fair Work ruling. The Coles Supermarket is a giant one in Australia. It has refused or defied the Fair Work Commission. Subsequently, the Coles has refused to increase the penalty rates for the staffs who have been left worse off under the contentious wage agreement bump into with the union shop assistant (Lawrence, 2013).
The decision to defy mean that workers who work primarily at nights along with weekends will endure to be paid less compared to the amount they would be paid under the award conditions, that is the fundamental safety net for the workers in the retail (Leach, 2014). The contract boosted the base hourly rates of pay, however, cut penalty rates, apportioning Coles’ staff between the ones working principally during the day on week days, and the ones who depend on penalty rates. It is controversial since seventy-seven thousand Coles’ employees covered by the agreement would be left out of pocket have been discovered by the court and subsequently asking Coles to boost the penalty rates (O’Dea, 2014). The main scope of this project will be to help the Supermarket solve this teething issue or problem.
