2. a. PETROLEUM, it is a mixture of hydrocarbons formed over millions of years, primarily from the decay of microscopic ocean-dwelling plants and animals. The resulting crude oil collects in underground pockets in sedimentary rock is separated into different fractions by fractional distillation. Most petroleum products are burned as fuel and about 2% is used to synthesize other organic compounds. As a chemical engineer, you are required to PREPARE the details specification of the products. TWO (2) fractions are produced from molecular size range C1-C4 and C5-C12. For EACH molecular size range:
• Write structures for FIVE (5) different compounds, formulas and contain functional group the IUPAC name for each compound. Identify TWO (2) different functional groups among the structures.
• Provide FIVE (5) structures using the dash format, the condensed format, the bond-line format, and the full three-dimensional format.
• Describe physical properties of the FIVE (5) compounds: boiling points, melting points, solubility, intermolecular.
• Predict their rank in increasing manner and explain your order on the basis of intermolecular forces and polarity.
Support your report with at least ONE (1) reliable source published within the years of 2018-2020.
