This assessment is specifically linked to the NCNZ Competencies for the Registered Nurse and reflective model: Nursing Council of New Zealand (2012). Competencies for Registered Nurses Scope of practice. http://www.nursingcouncil.org.nz/Nurses/Scopes-of-practice/Registered-nurse Following satisfactory completion of CAP712, students will demonstrate safe practice and reflect on the following domains for competencies as set by Nursing Council of New Zealand. Domain One: Professional responsibility. This domain contains competencies that relate to professional, legal and ethical responsibilities and cultural safety. These include being able to demonstrate knowledge and judgment and being accountable for own actions and decisions, while promoting an environment that maximises clients’ safety, independence, quality of life and health. Domain Two: Management of nursing care This domain contains competencies related to client assessment and managing client care, which is responsive to clients’ needs, and which is supported by nursing knowledge and evidence based research. Domain Three: Interpersonal relationships. This domain contains competencies related to interpersonal and therapeutic communication with clients, other nursing staff and interprofessional communication and documentation. Domain Four: Interprofessional health care and quality improvement. This domain contains competencies to demonstrate that, as a member of the health care team, the nurse evaluates the effectiveness of care and promotes a nursing perspective within the interprofessional activities of the team. Analysis of Your Nursing Practice Word limit: 1000 words Apply a reflective model framework to analyse your practice We teach the what, so what, now what model What: Select an exemplar from your nursing practice and through the reflective model, So what: analyse what aspects of nursing care as a RN you did well (which NCNZ competencies you met), and areas that you did not do so well in (NCNZ competencies not met) The Nursing Council of New Zealand competencies for Registration as a Nurse will provide the benchmark for you to evaluate your own performance.
