Harper Lee was a famous novelist who created the world-renowned novel To Kill a Mockingbird in the year 1960. write the point of time in Harper Lee was creating the novel about a gruesome and socially stirring story about family and their fight against racial arrogance, she herself had no clue that the novel would be so successful. It was declared as an extremely successful novel right at that point of time when it was published. The story was so successful that United States of America wanted to include this as a curriculum to the high school and middle School for children to study and understand what it means to go through racial arrogance and forcible nature of the people. The story became a cult classic in American literature eventually making Harper Lee win a Pulitzer prize for it as well. The story is mostly found to be a biographical novel that was intended out of the brain of Harper Lee and the perception of a child as she used to watch her family, her neighbours and all around her house observing the nature of each and every person around her to finally produce the novel. It was ideated that there are different events around her family and her neighbours that influenced or inspired her to write this novel. As she was a little child, the narrative of the story is also written from the perspective of a little child. The story is based upon the main characters Jean Louis Finch and her brother Jeremy Finch with their friend Dill who used to visit his aunt house every summer. The story revolves around these people over the course of time in Alabama consisting of three years. Jean was a 6-year-old girl living in the town of Maycomb, which is another fictional town as per the brainchild of Harper Lee. The children also used to imagine a lot about their next-door neighbour Arthur Radley. Radley was a person who never came out in public and this is why, the children around the town including the adults always used to talk in whichever way they want to about Radley. However, Radley never came out in public even after there was so much mystery created around him. It was even found that Arthur Radley was mostly aloof of coming out in public because of the behaviour he used to receive from his neighbours and the people around town. This mysterious nature made the children think about him most of the time and imagine how he would look and how he would behave. Sometimes they would also device a plan for bringing him out in the public by anyhow and any means. This is to specify that the children also wanted to be friends with him at some point of time. There was a certain incident when the children found that there were few gifts addressed to them outside Radley's house. The person who sent the gift was never known, but Jean was sure that it was from Arthur Radley. The children did not have their mother as she died at a very young age but they had their father Atticus, who was a lawyer by his profession and was appointed by the judge Taylor to defend a black man called Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson was accused of raping a white woman Mayella Ewell. However, the entire town had the idea that the people who were accusing Tom Robinson for the rape were not people to be trusted or were not even people who never told a lie. The Ewell family and the other people in the fictional town started to discourage both the families, that is, the Robinsons and the Finches about the court case, so that Atticus would not look for any chance to defend Robinson in the court case.
One night, the children, Jem and Scout, the nicknames for Jeremy and Jean respectively, both were attacked when they were coming back from school after celebrating Halloween. Both of them were rescued by an unknown person, whom Scout later identified to be Arthur Radley himself. Arthur rescued the children to their safety. In due course of time, it was found that Ewells were at fault and Tom was innocent. It was Mayella who was friendless and lonely and this is why had made advances towards Tom. Once in such a compromising situation, Mayella’s father caught both of them and physically beat her and at the same time accused Tom of raping the daughter. Even when Tom was regarded as innocent, the entire town held him as the person at fault and the jury immediately convicted him. In due course of time he was shot dead while trying to flee conviction. At the same time, the Ewells took revenge on Atticus by spitting on his face and attacking the children with the other half of the town. In all these commotions created, the house of the judge and the widow of Tom Robinson was also menaced at some point of time as a racial aggression. It was also found that the children are attacked along with the father Ewell being found dead hit by a knife. The children were under the garb of suspicion for killing Ewell but the matter was not put forward either by their father Atticus or Sheriff Tate. They were rescued from the mob lynching and it was Arthur again who saved them.
During the end of the novel, it was found that the children were waving goodbye to Arthur Radley who was escorting them to their home. The children started to be completely disbelieved about the constitution and judgement system of the society and started to perceive the world, or imagine the things in the world through the eyes of Arthur Radley. It was then seen that the effect of the perception that were created to be in the society were absolutely racist in nature, and how pure were the people who had no connection to this racists society whatsoever.
