Hectare

Hectare is a type of standard unit which is used for measuring area. A hectare is similar to 100 acres of area, whereas one acre can be defined as 100 square meters. The term hectare is derived from a Latin word ‘hect’ which an irregular contraction for the Greek word hundred. They are considered to be the main measuring unit for land. Though the most commonly used among them is hectare.

Way to convert hectare

Three steps must be followed to calculate hectare from any non-metric unit:

• The equivalent must be found for writing a statement with identity. For example:

1 hectare = 2.471 acres or 107,637 square feet;

1 acre = 43,500 square feet or 4,840 square yards;

1 yard = 3 feet; 1 square yard = 9 square feet.

• The number of acres must be divided by 2.471 in a case to convert hectares to acreage. For example:

In case to convert 320 acres to a hectare, it must be known that 1 hectare = 2.471 acres. Thus 320 divided by 2.471 (320/2.471) The answer will be 129.5 hectares.

• Conversion of square yards to acres must be done firstly, after which calculation must be done to find out the number of hectares presents there. If a square yard is the only unit for the measurement of area. For example:

To find out the number of hectares in 17340 square yards, it is known 1 acre = 4840 square yards. Thus 17,340 square yards/4,840 square yards = 3.583 acres. Now, convert acreage into hectares. Knowing that 1 hectare = 2.471 acres, divide 3.583/2.471 = 1.45 hectares.
