INDEPENDENT PROJECT CW2 1 INDEPENDENT PROJECT CW2 By Name Course Instructor Institution Location Date INDEPENDENT PROJECT CW2 2 Abstract The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is an ongoing developing process, maintaining and documenting processes of individual professional skills. These skills are always developed through train ing, courses . In some cases, this can be developed by watching others perform some tasks, especially in a work en vironment. The development of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is very crucial for everyone as it helps in indicating clear professionalism as well as getting it right to help one enhance his employability . In this article, we will illustrate the evaluation, application, and use of the theories of Continuing Professional Development so as to reflect on my own career aspiration for a period of ten years. The analysis will also entail some theories of Continuing Professional Development which helps in the understanding of Continuing Professional Development. INDEPENDENT PROJECT CW2 3 Introduction In general, Continuing Professional Development is a continuous process that helps in developing and improving one`s knowled ge , skills, and understanding. In some cases, one may probably fail to realize this but to undertake Continuing Professional Development perfectly, it requires one to identify his needs in the development of the profession and then Development . The Continuing Professional Development involves some cycles which includes the identification of and plan, learning activities, reflect on your learning, apply your learning, and share your learning. Some of the key theories of Continuing Professional Development includes the social learning theory and cognitive theory (Sachdeva, 2016) . The Continuing Professional Development has several tools which are very crucial for its analysis and development. These tools inc lude the following; Award -bearing Training Mentoring or coaching Standard -based Cascade Transformative Action research The above tools and tools of Continuing Professional Development make it easier for the analysis and development of continuous professionalism in civil engineering. The area of Civil engineering `s continuing professional development is a growing interest in both Australia and globally (Neimeyer, 2012) . For Civil engineering, continuing professional development can be organized and structured in various ways and for given reasons . As continuing professional INDEPENDENT PROJECT CW2 4 development in Civil Engineering can be viewed as a way of enhancing or introducing knowledge , attitude , and skills , it can`t be assumed that tools and theories are vital for the analysis . Purpose of the study The assignment aims at developing a report which shows the elevation and application of continuing professional development tool and tools to enable me to reflect on my career aspiration for a period of ten years. TASK Developing Your Qualification In the process of developing my Civil engineering career qualification, the key theories like social learning theory and the cognitive theory are very crucial as they help me to attain the requirements. In the process of developing my qualification for the next ten years to make me a highly qualified Civ il engineering, lots of training will be used ( Patja, 2010) . During training, as a student, I will be highly monitored and coached so as to get the right concept right, and being that the Civil engineering course is a technical course lots of practice a re key to make me get the right idea of how things are done. Monitoring , coaching, and training are the key tools employed in continuing professional development to help me have a good career pathway development which will ensure that I become a good and highly qualified Civil engineer after the journey of ten years. In the process of developing my qualification as a Civil Engineer Cascade tool is very crucial as it entails training events and then cascading the information . Cascading as a tool in continuing professional development will enable me to integrate the skills and training to be INDEPENDENT PROJECT CW2 5 taught in class (Tulinius, 2010) . Training of Civil engineering course deals with bo th theory and practical. In the practice, there are lots of mathematical tools that will be employed to make the training a success. Some of the calculations will involve the calculation of forces and the strength of materials . As a civil engineering student, it is expected from me that I have to acquire the required information for a period of ten years so that I become a qualified Civil engineer. Coaching involves a one -on -one relationship where a teacher deals with the student directly. Since any engineering course is very hard, the process of training and coaching is highly involving, and as a student, I will have to put all my efforts to ensure that I perfectly develop my qualification as an e ngineer. Even though it is a long journey but I am determined to reach my destination . Fulfill your career aspiration After my graduation from college, I did not have a clear picture of the exact work I will be undertaking as an engineer. But what I knew was only that I will be designing things and that was all. All I wanted was to be a designer and have a career path that I wanted to pursue regardless of how difficult and hard it will be. I, therefore, became an engineer because I desired to make designs of buildings but this did not occur . I actually make designs of structures which can be both on the water like bridges and on land like roads . After going through this I lea rned that ; It is good to be clear in the mind of what you like the most, for example, if you like design things then you need to look f or design jobs in consultancies. And if you like to see things being constructed, then look for job opportunities in construction firms. INDEPENDENT PROJECT CW2 6 It is good to be picky about the job opportunity which may result in the career path . Once you start your career you shall realize that the task you like , the ones you require more skills in, and the ones you good at. I got chartered as a qualified Civil engineer from a body known as the Institutes of Civil Engineers ( ICE). As a civil engineer, I attain ed the skills of designing airports, dams, highways, and other structures. After successfully completing my bachelor`s degree I began my career in a lead role ( Lockyer, 2017) . To increase my opportunities, I also attained some extra training and credentials in the field of Civil engineering. There are key certifications which I also attained to boost my bachelor`s degree in Civil engineering ( Grant, 2017) . Th ese certifications include the Certified Construction Manager, Value Methodology Associate Certification , and Navigation engineering diplomate ( Collin, 2012) . After some years basically, I am anticipating to attain more certification to add to what I currently have and the bachelor`s degree in Civil engineering. After completion of every certification and bachelor`s degree in Civil engineering, there was an award - bearing to confirm that I actually qualify for the certification completed. During the studies of the certifications and bachelor`s degree in Civil engineering, there were lots of action research tool which entails conducting lots of research to get the required information about some key concepts in Civil engineering . Developing your own Career To make me become a qualified Civil engin eer for years to come I have highlighted some of the key organizations within Australia where I will develop my own career and become a good engineer with the required experience. Some of these highlighted organizations include the Lendlease company, Laing O` Rourke Australia , and CPB contractors ( Davis, 2017) . These organizations act as a transformative where I will be highly transformed from being a graduate INDEPENDENT PROJECT CW2 7 Civil engineer to a qualified experienced Civil engineer . The transformative tool illustrates the changes which will transpire in the pathway of becoming an experienced Civil engineer. In the process of dev eloping my own career, I will acquire the experience and the skills in civil engineering which make the training to be standard -based ( Eppich, 2016) . The standard -based tool of the Continuing Professional Development will make me be a highly qualified Civil engineer. Establishing business I anticipated start ing a business within the next ten years from now, this therefore will require me to obtain some funds for the business. The funding of the business to be started will probably be obtained from financing institutions like banks. Some of these financiers i n Australia include the Infrastructure and project financing agency, Clean energy finance corporation (Konnyu, 2020) . Some banks in Australia which can be used to obtain funds for the business may include the commonwealth bank, National Australian Bank, and the Westpac Bank. The anticipated company to be started will deal with the consultancy and sales of the Civil engineering products like the Civil Engineering Equipment cutter, Conical shank bit auger bucket teeth drilling bit, Civil engineering and construction machinery spare part straight Auger and many others. Findings / Discussion Lots of Continuing Professional Development tools were outlined like the Award - bearing, Training, Mentoring or coaching, Standard -based, and Cascade. These tools will be so much useful to help me to develop my qualifications ( Hemphill, 2015) . This will take me four years as with the requirement of the Australian standard of education where a bachelor`s degree in engineering takes four years to completion ( Patterson, 2013) . Most of these tools of INDEPENDENT PROJECT CW2 8 Continuing Professional Development falls in the process of developing my own qualifications ( Gordon, 2013) . Such tools include award -bearing tool s, monitoring or coaching, and training. Fulfilling my careering aspiration entails taking time to attain some key experience to work as a Civil engineer ( Chipchase, 2012) . This may probably take me some years and I anticipate it to be four years while I work in some Civil engineering firm . Join ing some bigger firms will help me to further my training and get the required skills to enable work as a qualified engineer. The career aspiration is a key requirement in the path of Continuing Professional Development since it will confirm that I full y have and shall have attained the required training and coaching which are key for one to be called a qualified Civil engineer (Yesilcinar, 2018) . And this is proved through the certifications and the bachelor`s degree in Civil engineering . When one sees the certificates for the degree and the certification, he or she will know that I have gone through the required training and coaching necessary for a civil engineer. All the above - mentioned processes are very significant paths to be followed for Continuing Professional Development (Filipe,2014) . The certification in other short courses which is also anticipate undertaking will take some time which is approximated to be 2 years. The two years includes the training and examinations given for the certifications of the short courses. The process of the development of a career in Civil engineering for a period of ten years can be illustrated usi ng the following diagram INDEPENDENT PROJECT CW2 9 Figure 1: Showing the time span for the development of a career in Civil engineering Recommendations To fully attain a higher profile Continuing Professional Development, it is recommended that I will have to enroll in some certifications while I still undertake my bachelor`s degree. This can be undertaken during holidays or even as part -time. This is very significant as it will help me to reduce the total time, I take to be an experie nce d Civil engineer. It is also recommended to take for some Civil engineering firms while I am still in college undertaking my bachelor`s degree. This will help me to be a qualified Civil engineer and makes it easier to secure myself a job opportunity once am done with my college. The time I take to complete my path of becoming a qualified engineer will also be highly reduced. Summary As discussed above, the use of Continuing Professional Development theories and tool s have been seen as very significant as they help in explaining the Continuing Professional Development path of becoming a qualified Civil engineer. The theories like social learning theory and cognitive theory play a crucial role in ensuring that an individual acqui res the required information through doing research and good education. While tools in the Continuing Professional Development are crucial in explaining this process. A tool like award -bearing explains that after attains a given qualification in any field of Civil engineering then a certificate or award is given as pro of. Other tools like the training show that as a Civil engineer I will have to undergo some key training to become a qualified engineer as opposed to a fake or quake INDEPENDENT PROJECT CW2 10 engineer. During training, lots of coaching and mentoring will be adopted and perfectly used. An action of research as a Continuing Professional Development tool is very crucial in ensuring that a student like me gets the required information over the internet reg arding Civil engineering.
