Human Factors in System Design

The human factors in system design are regarded for covering the important theories of human factors and how they apply to system design and subsequent development. This specific course is determined to assist the students in understanding the basics of human factors and how they are including while the development of a system. Students will get to learn about the factors and their importance like cognitive skills, the physical ability of humans, design limitations, safety-related parameters, reliability, and decisions taken. The human factors within the design of a system generally emphasize the crucial concepts upon which the entire design process is based, and the behavioral concepts aligned with design processes.

The importance of this course is because the human components in system design are necessary when the desire to apprehend the web designs provides the main idea to the designers and understanding the same becomes complicated in certain scenarios. For apprehending better the desires and objectives of a webpage, it is important for the individuals aligned with the development of the respective system to investigate the operations of the system such that after valuable interaction it can be recommended that how the necessary changes for the designers and developers can be effective and significant. The assessments for this course and the relevant assignments that will be provided to the students by the lecturer are specifically designed by them such that it provides the students with a significant practical experience on how to carry out analytical paradigms of usability requirements and priorities. The assessments will assess the students’ skills on how they can perform a systematic usability evaluation utilizing a standardized method, and produce a presentation or report accordingly with accurate findings and outcomes. There will be a total of 3 approaches that will be followed by the lecturer and the relevant assessor to evaluate a student's skills and approaches they have attained while studying the subject modules covered in this course. Internal assessments will be done where the students will be provided with small theoretical papers and data related to system design analysis, and they need to submit those papers in individual formats. They will also be provided with multiple choice questions every week such that the lecturer and the assessor understand the progress of every student and guide them further in this course. The next part of the assessment will include individual report writing, presentation of the same, and a viva examination with the lecturer. The students will be provided with different case study scenarios based upon the topics of system design, system analysis requirement elicitation, disaster recovery, and more. Based on the case studies provided to them by the lecturer and the assessor the student needs to provide individual reports and critically analyze the case study scenarios such that they can prove a point to the lecturer regarding the understanding of this topic and the subsequent subject modules. The internal assessments are mandatory for every student and the assignments included in this part need to be submitted every week as per the direction of the lecturer. The individual reports, presentation and Viva will be held after every 4 months. The individual reports will help the student in highlighting what they have learned throughout the end and critically analyze their thinking skills. Lastly, a final exam will be taken which is mandatory for all the students, and passing it with optimum marks is necessary. Upon completion of the final exam and the grades attained by them in the previous assignments, will allow them to perceive the course completion award or certificate. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the students are expected to prevail in the following learning outcomes, experiences, and relevant skills: a)The students will be able to learn and apprehend the basic principles related to human factors for engineering, tasks, and system design and development. b)The course will include certain subjects that will allow the students to gain adequate knowledge of human factors engineering principles and the relevant practices. c)The students will be able to stay familiar with the human attributes required or generally followed for system design and development specifically in real-world applications and the commercial sectors. d)The students will prevail the opportunity to develop their knowledge of human factors design concepts and particular principles. e)The students will also get to learn about the engineering and design models of human-machine interaction and relevant information processing techniques and appropriate strategies. f)Completion of the assignments that will be provided by the lecturers and assessed by the subsequent assessors will allow the students to establish a clear understanding of approaches required for integrating the human factors in system designing and development. g)The students will also be able to design and recognize expected engineering and design-related outcomes. h)The students will be able to prevail with a professional career in human design and demonstrate the human factors and issues particular in some domains. i)In their professional career, the students will be able to apply their known human factor design principles to real-world problems.

The overall course module includes 200 credit points out of which the student needs to attend or octane a minimum of 30% credit points. The internal assessments, the individual reports, the presentations, and the viva that will be taken by the assessor will all be included under these 200 credit points. The quizzes, viva, and theoretical papers will comprise 20% credit points. On the other hand, the presentation and the individual reports will comprise 20% credit points. It is the final exam that sustains the majority of the credit points, which also makes it crucial for the students. Grading Policy Assignment Possible Points Quizzes, viva , and theoretical papers 20% Individual reports, presentations. 20% The final exam 60% Total points to be awarded 100%
