Section 1: Introduction

Introduce your assignment

Set the scene for your essay in relation to the case study you will be considering.

State clearly whether your video will be in relation to the admission  or discharge planning scenario.

Provide a link of your video stored in ‘one drive’. Please ensure that the link is active and can be viewed without any permissions required.

Section 2: Communication skills

Identify the range of communication skills used in the scenario to facilitate the assessment or discharge process

This will include verbal and non-verbal communication skills

Provide a critical discussion and analysis of the skills used to facilitate communication

A detailed critical discussion of the type of questions used (open or closed questioning) is expected.

Provide a critical discussion of the barriers to communication depicted in your video

Your discussion should include factors such as the environment, patient symptoms, fear, anxiety, attitudes and beliefs of the patient and their relative.

Please ensure that your discussions are supported with contemporary research, NICE Guidance, NMC code and any relevant policies or guidance.

Section 3: Communication Strategy

Critically analyse the communication strategies used in the video to enhance patient care.

This will include critical analysis of Motivational Interview (MI) and Teach Back Technique

Show extensive reading around these strategies

How does the strategy help to improve communication and patient outcomes?

Is it an appropriate strategy for this patient?

What are the advantages and limitations?

Use literature to apply a patient centred critical approach

Draw a conclusion from the key points raised in your case study

This must highlight a brief reflection of the key learning you have drawn from writing this assignment and the steps you will use to improve your communication skills

Second Submission (referral): The resubmitted element, if successful, will be capped at a bare pass, i.e. 40 (UG) or 50 (PG). The full mark of any previously passed elements will be retained. Coursework submitted late, i.e. at any point after the published deadline date and time, will be awarded a zero.

Re-enrolment: Grades awarded for modules on re-enrolment will not be capped for classification purposes.

Provisional Marks: All marks are provisional until ratified by the relevant Board of Examiners.

Marking and Moderation:  All marking and moderation procedures are governed and guided by the current University’s Policies and Regulations.
