This essay is to debate key aspects of public health policy including the role of social, economic and public health policies in shaping health promotion and care provision in developed and developing countries and its impact on population health outcomes.  In the process, analyse the strengths and weaknesses of alternative approaches to financing, organising and delivering public health care .

2.Choose a Public Health policy on any one of the following:

 Alcohol and drugs misuse, smoking related policy, Infection control policies, breastfeeding, Obesity, dementia and learning difficulties.

3 Link with at least one theoretical concept and principles of Health promotion in your analysis of the policy. This means that you must consider how your theoretical concept is interpreted within key relevant policy documents (e.g. How does workplace smoking policy is linked to positive health education (Tannahill’s model)/Why do some people adopt new ideas readily while others are more conservatives (Diffusion of innovation theory).

4. Discuss the role of social, economic and public health policies in shaping health promotion in developed countries (Choose one developed country from the following: United Kingdom, Australia and the United States).

5. Discuss the role of social, economic and public health policies in shaping health promotion in developing countries (Choose one developing country from the following: Uganda, Bangladesh, Thailand).

6. Your work should be supported by relevant public health evidence: Peer reviewed journals, public policy documents, government reports. Harvard referencing guidelines are available on LSST Connect.

7. There must be evidence of wide reading and understanding to achieve high marks.

8. Analyse the strengths and weaknesses of alternative approaches to finances for your chosen countries (For example, Bangladesh health systems financing is characterized by high out-of-pocket payments.
