3D Animation Games used for Teaching Introduction • Year 1960s – development of computer aided design (CAD). • CAD paved way for 3D animation which started being applied in film, gaming as well as construction industries. • 3D animation started to be taken as a crucial medium for creating visual content. • 3D animation techniques have become a central competency required of students in related arenas. • Thus, it is high time to discuss or research on how 3D animation can be used in teaching to enhance learning processes. This is surprising since the 3D game-like representation of the program state created by the virtual entity is “intrinsic in the natural way to view the data itself” ( Anderson and McLoughlin 2007) Research on 3D Painting in Virtual Reality to Improve Students’ Motivation of 3D Animation Learning “The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of 6-DoF high immersive virtual reality for stereoscopic spatial mapping to assess the impact of perceived spatial capabilities on 3D software learning motivation” ( Ho, Sun, and Tsai 2019) . Be-Educated: Multimedia Learning through 3D Animation “This project aims to teach and spread the importance of education and respecting the tools of education: pen, paper, pencil, rubber. To achieve this cognitive learning, a 3D animated movie has been developed using principles of multimedia learning with 3D cartoon characters resembling the actual educational objects, where the buildings have also been modelled to resemble real books and diaries” (Bhatti et al. 2018). Learning Biology With Interactive Digital 3D Content: Teacher Attitudes “Digital content can offer new functionality that transcends the limitations of traditional content. One important example where this is true is digital 3D models. Digital 3D models allow learners to interactively navigate and visually examine the spatial structure, composition and arrangement of objects. This type of interactivity supports spatial thinking, which is strongly linked to academic success in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplines” ( Siiman et al. 2014) . 3D SIGN LANGUAGE MATHEMATICS IN IMMERSIVE ENVIRONMENT “In this paper we describe the development of a new immersive 3D learning environment to increase mathematical skills of deaf children. The application teaches mathematical concepts and ASL (American Sign Language) math terminology through user interaction with fantasy 3D virtual signers and environments. The program can be displayed in immersive devices and includes a gesture control system comprised of a pair of pinch gloves and a 6-degrees-of-freedom wrist tracker” (Adamo-Villani, Carpenter and Arns 2006) .
