Limits and Buddhism: Emphasizing Wholeness and Respect for Ethical and Ecological Boundaries
Answered

The Middle Path and Non-Harming in Buddhism

Buddhism theories point out that emphasizing individuality and promoting the greatest fulfillment of the desires of the individual conjointly lead to destruction. Happiness is linked to wholeness, not to personal wealth. We need to find new ways of doing business, ways that respect the ecological and ethical limits of business activities. Acting within limits provides the hope and promise of contributing to the preservation and enrichment of the world.

Non harming is fundamental in Buddhism therefore it follows the Middle Path between extremes, by having limits.

No government has the right to decide on the truth of scientific principles, nor to prescribe in any way the character of the questions investigated. Neither may a government determine the aesthetic value of artistic creations, nor limit the forms of literacy or artistic expression. Nor should it pronounce on the validity of economic, historic, religious, or philosophical doctrines. Instead it has a duty to its citizens to maintain the freedom, to let those citizens contribute to the further adventure and the development of the human race.

If you've ever found yourself pushed to the limits of your tolerance... you find yourself doing some things that, from the outside, can be seen as quite insane.

Brandon Lee (Claire)

Obviously, there is a physical limit to what the body can achieve. But rather than responding directly to tired muscles, [Timothy David] Noakes and [Alan] St. Clair Gibson proposed that the brain acts in advance of this limit, making us feel tired and forcing us to stop exercising well before any peripheral signs of damage occur. In other words, fatigue is not a physical event, but a sensation or emotion invented by the brain to prevent catastrophic harm.

Jo Marchant (Emese)

Limited minds can recognise limitations only in others.

Jack London (Emese)

Growth is limited by the necessity which is present in the least amount. And naturally, the least favourable condition controls the growth rate

Frank Herbert (Emese)

Our experiences limit us only. Just as well as their lack.

Gaál Viktor (Emese)

There is no limit to our ability and potential when we, as a nation and as a people, work together.

Richard Burr (Fu Fu)

The only limits you have are the limits you believe

Wayne Dyer (N)

All limits are self-imposed.

Icarus (Prag)

The world of reality has its limits; the world of imagination is boundless.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau (Prag)

From the pilgrims to the Founders, from the soldiers at Valley Forge to the marchers at Selma, and from President Lincoln to the Rev. Martin Luther King, Americans have always rejected limits on our children’s future..... This nation is our canvas, and this country is our masterpiece. We look at tomorrow and see unlimited frontiers just waiting to be explored.

There are no great limits to growth because there are no limits on the human capacity for intelligence, imagination and wonder.

Our duty as men and women is to proceed as if limits to our ability did not exist. We are collaborators in creation.

Our human and earthly limits, properly understood, are not confinements, but rather inducements … to fullness of relationship and meaning.

“If the impact of the move to net-zero emissions on employment & cost of living is not addressed & managed, & if those most affected are not engaged in the debate, there is a significant risk that there will be resistance to change, which could lead the transition to stall.”

“HM Treasury should develop a strategy to ensure this is fair, and is perceived to be, fair. A broader strategy will also be needed to ensure a just transition across society, with vulnerable workers and consumers protected.”
