Developing a Personal Portfolio and Reflective Report for Employability

Module Overview

This assignment allows for the development of a personal portfolio and reflective report that summarises your development through this year leading to an employability pack for your placement or work-based learning modules. The activities and tasks are designed to help you to understand your own skillset and to identify the skills needed to successfully obtain placements and subsequent careers. The module and assessment will utilise class Notebooks to create a portfolio and overall reflective report detailing your progress this year. The assessment brief has multiple hand in dates. Please check the assignment hand in dates carefully. 

On successful completion of this module a student will be able to: 
1.Display competence in the behavioural requirements of the working environment. 
2.Critically evaluate their experience of applying for work placements.  
3.Demonstrate the development of personal and professional skills, such as communication, teamwork, problem solving, decision-making, initiative and creativity. 
4.Analyse and review their engagement with continuing professional development. 


You are required to produce an application pack tailored to one of the 4 roles listed on Class Notebook, the application pack comprises of the following items;
 
•    Professional CV including link to an updated LinkedIn Profile.
•    Cover Letter

Developed through self-assessment tools, personal development plan and placement applications.You are required to reflect on your personal development throughout this academic year. You will complete base line assessments within the first semester which will help you to identify areas for development, these activities will form the Personal Development Plan (found on class notebook) which will support your reflection.  

Drawing from the base line assessments, placement applications, application pack feedback and practical assessment consider your areas of self-development this academic year, one of which must be your application for placements.  Provide a 2000-word report, that reflects on two areas in which you have developed this academic year. Include in the report a copy of your personal development plan that supports your reflection and detail future plans.

You will undertake a competency-based video interview that mirror industry requirements.  A link will be provided to the video software. Student will receive preparation for the interview throughout the module.Submission Date: Friday March 5th at 5pm via the Careers website. Please allow 1 hour for the videos to upload.Submission instructions: Via the interview software tool. Log in details will be provided in class.

LO1 - Demonstrate the development of personal and professional skills, such as communication, teamwork, problem solving, decision-making, initiative and creativity. The student has created an excellent CV and Cover letter. The CV and Cover letter are tailored to the role and showcase the personal and professional skills required. 

60+ The student has identified and analysed personal and professional skills that are relevant to the advertised role. The student gives relevant examples with the CV and Cover letter to support the role.  

50+ The student identifies personal and professional skills that and gives some examples within the CV or Cover letter to support the role, however this is not specifically tailored to the role.

40+ Elements of the CV and/or Cover letter are incomplete or lack detail, the student does not identify relevant personal or professional skills for the role. 

<40 The CV or Cover letter are written for an incorrect role and the skills required cannot be measured. Or elements of the CV or Cover letter are incomplete or incoherent. 

LO2 - Display competence in the behavioural requirements of the working environment. 
    70+ The CV and Cover letter are fully completed clearly articulating or exceeding the expectations of the employer. 

60+ The CV and Cover letter are well presented; the student meets and evidences the competences required by the employer. 

50+ The CV and / or Cover letter evidences some of the competencies required by the employer.

40+ The CV and Cover letter has no professional competencies required by the role

<40 The CV and Cover are written for an incorrect role or the CV and Cover letter do not demonstrate that the student is aware of the competencies required.
