One Planet Vision for the Responsible Recovery of the Tourism Sector: A Framework for Resilient and

Background and Overview

Presentations should be submitted electronically in PowerPoint format.  If we are unable to run presentations in the classroom they will be run live on MS Teams.

You will need to submit the Power Point files to Turnitin. You must then use these files to deliver the live presentation on MS Teams.

Assessment Task

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted tourism destinations worldwide in different ways and with varying degrees of magnitude. By April 2020 international arrivals had fallen by 44% overall. Although there signs of recovery the UNWTO predicts that international tourists will fall by a total of 850m – 1.1trillion compared to 2019 with an attendant loss of US$910b to US$ 1.2t in export revenues and 100 to 120 million jobs at risk.

The UNWTO claims that the pandemic crisis reinforces the need to strengthen the ‘resilience’ and ‘sustainability’ of the tourism sector.  Accordingly, it has called for a ‘responsible’ recovery of the tourism sector from the COVID-19 crisis. TO this end it has published a report - One Planet Vision for the Responsible Recovery of the Tourism Sector which aims to support the development and implementation of recovery plans which contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement.

With reference to at least two of the six priority lines of action outlined in the afore-mentioned report as a framework, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, you must:

·Prepare a brief review and critique of the report and its principal argument;

·Provide a concise analysis of the challenges and opportunities for rebuilding tourism in a destination of your choice;

·Identify specific areas where critical intervention and reform are needed in order to help rebuild the destination along more resilient and sustainable lines.

Assessment Instructions

Please prepare and design a presentation for your chosen destination. Your presentation should include the following:

·A brief analysis and critique of the UNWTO report - One Planet Vision for the Responsible Recovery of the Tourism Sector

·A clear and concise outline of your chosen destination; its principal assets/attributes, including relevant economic and tourism data, key resources and attributes, key indicators related to the existing scale and composition of tourism provision, infrastructure and amenities.

·A concise summary of the principal effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the destination.

·Identify specific areas where critical intervention and reform are needed in order to help rebuild the destination along more resilient and sustainable lines.

Assessment Task Requirements

·Integrate the above with at least two of the priority lines of action and the relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals(s).

·Your presentation should be in Power Point format. There is a simple audio function for you to add the voice over (see below)

·Please ensure that you include a clear title page (including name and student ID), followed by an Introduction/outline, and a list of references at the end.

·The title page should contain a suitable name for your presentation, the module code and the name/ID# of all group members.

·There is no prescribed word count but remember not to use too many slides for your presentation nor to clutter them with excessive text, images and/or tables.

·You may add further contextual information or text in the Notes section.

·Please remember to use ‘in-slide referencing’ (Harvard Referencing style) where relevant on the slides themselves.
