Evaluate the behavioural approach to management, through understanding of the factors that affect differences in individual behaviour.

• Structure, write and present a 5000 word team report and presentation that documents an analysis of your project and related academic theory/models.

• Through doing so, demonstrate your knowledge of leadership and management processes and practices that may be deployed to positively influence individual behaviour.

You worked in a project team this semester. In your team of 4 or 5 people, produce a 5000 word (total) report (at least 1000 words per student or equivalent) and a team presentation that analyses the behaviour of employees and management at an organisation approved by the lecturing team. Your group’s analysis shall be based on the relevant lecture and textbook content.

The presentation will be a voice-over PowerPoint presentation which the students will identify themselves before they speak and clearly state their individual word count in the report.

Your report and appended slide presentation should focus on the below key areas:

• Background/outline of your project and related organisation

• Goals and objectives (why they are important and how they are established)

• Leadership and management behaviours

• Group and team behaviours

• Motivation and perception

Notes

1. Establish who will do what and allocate work equally amongst team members according to strengths, skills and interests.

2. Each group member must be nominated to work on at least one topic.

3. Work effectively as a team in order to determine the content and layout of the report and appended slide presentation.

4. Your report and appended slide presentation should make reference to relevant theories, models and principles from the course and textbook(s) illustrated by practical examples from the case study organisation.

5. Your report and appended slide presentation should be clear, professional, informative and appropriately referenced.

6. The appended slide presentation component would be carefully timed so that live it would not exceed 15 minutes and should provide an overview of the key areas

7. All students should participate equally in the report and appended slide presentation.

8. You will be assessed individually on your contribution to the report and appended slide presentation.

9. As in the workplace, individuals should not allow themselves to be disadvantaged by the absence of a group member.

Analysis

Your work must contain evidence of logical, analytical thinking, evaluation and synthesis. For example, to examine and break information down into parts, make inferences, compile, compare and contrast information. This means not just describing What! but also justifying: Why? How? When? Who? Where? At all times, you must provide justification for your arguments and judgements. Evidence that you have reflected upon the ideas of others within the subject area is crucial to you providing a reasoned and informed debate within your work. Furthermore, you should provide evidence that you are able to make sound judgements and convincing arguments using data and concepts. Sound, valid conclusions are necessary and must be derived from the content of your work. There should be no new information presented within your conclusion. Where relevant, alternative solutions and recommendations may be proposed.
