Requirements for Collecting News Stories

You will be responsible for compiling a news journal, to be submitted at the end of the semester on Week 5. For EACH week you will collect 4 news stories related to violence, conflict, human rights, genocide, and warfare. For a total of 20 entries. The news need not focus on the US, but rather on the case of violence, human rights, conflict, and war. For 5 weeks of the semester, you will be collecting and analyzing news stories related to violence, human rights, conflict, genocide, and warfare. You will be responsible for compiling a news journal binder/folder, to be submitted at the end of Week 5. The total number of stories will be 20. The news should be from January 2020 to Present. Each week you will collect 4 news articles from a News Media Outlet, written by professional journalists. Please refer to Ad Fontes Media for a list of reputable news outlets based on the Media Bias Chart One reputable outlet is New York Times. You can look here for a starting point. Use the keywords: War Crimes, Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity For each News story, you will be required to have a link, write a summary and an analysis. You must provide a copy of the article and write a summary over each article. A summary is a minimum of 5 sentences that lets potential readers know what the reading is about. The summary should also include the date, newspaper’s name and title of the story. The analysis requires the story to be framed by violence, human rights, conflict, genocide, and warfare issues as exemplified in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. Why is the story relevant to war, conflict, violence, genocide, and human rights? What happened? To what particular UN Right is it connected or how is this an issue for war crimes and crimes against humanity?
