We use the formula d = s * t to find the distance. Speed has to be multiplied by the time to find the required distance. Here, in the above equation the term ‘d’ is referring to the distance, the term ‘s’ is referring to the speed and the term ‘t’ is referring to the time. If the values of at least two of the above-mentioned factors are known, then the third unknown factor can be figured out easily by rearranging the equation. The above-mentioned formula is for the calculation of the distance. Let us see the other formulas to find the values of speed and time respectively. When we have to find the speed, we have to rearrange the formula in such a way that speed can be found out. The required equation is, speed = distance / time. Thus, form the equation we can see that to find out the speed we have to divide the distance by time. In case of finding the value of time, in same way we have to rearrange the equation. The find out the value of the time we have to divide the distance by the speed and the equation is time = distance/speed.

In the given problem, we have to find out the time. Abner can walk a 3 miles of distance in one hour. We have to find out the time that Abner would take to walk 7 miles. Hence, from the above discussion it can be concluded that we have to divide he total distance that Abner would walk by the speed of Abner to find out the required time. Here, in the given question, the total distance is 7 miles and as Abner walks 3 miles per hour, hence the speed of Abner is 3mi/h or mph.

Time (hours) = distance (miles) / speed (miles per hour)

Time = 7 miles / 3 mph

Time = 2.33333 hours

Time = 2.33333 h

Time = 02:20:00

Thus, the time taken by Abner to walk 7 miles is 2 hours, 20 minutes and 0 seconds.
