Explain The Step By Step Procedure For Converting 18 Kilometres To Meters

Referencing Styles : APA | Pages : 1

There are different ways in which kilometres can be converted into meters. Conversion is one of the important part of all the fields. The conversion from one unit to another can be easily done by setting up different equivalent ratios which will be helpful for solving the various measurements. In order to convert one unit to another it is important to know the various methods involved in the conversion. In the very first step it is important to know that what is the equivalent value of 1 Kilometres with respect to meters. The first thing that is important is that 1 Kilometres is equivalent to 1000 meters. The prefix ‘Kilo’ in the term ‘Kilometres’ is originated from the Greek Language which means 1,000. This is one of the important and relevant information that can be used for conversion. With this information it is very easy to gather and start the conversion from Kilometres to meters. The very first thing that is done is setting up the equations in the form of fractions that helps and make the conversion from kilometres to meters much easy.

Step 1: Write the conversion in the form of fraction to convert kilometres to meters. The steps are related to convert the value and the given information in the form of fractions. The fraction which comprises of the equal value is known as the equivalent ratio. The units of the equivalent ration are the same at both the numerator and at the denominator as per the conversion. While in the conversion involved, it is converting kilometres into meters so the meter’s unit will be at the numerator part and the kilometre unit will be there at the denominator part. It is represented as: -

1Km = 1000 meters

= 1000 meters / 1 kilometre

It is important to know that actually what are the different values that we need to convert before proceeding further with the process of conversion. From the question it is clear that 18 kilometres need to be converted into meters. The 18 kilometres is supposed to present in the denominator. The unit in which it needs to be converted consists of an unknown value in this particular problem. It is important to represent the unknown value with the help of a variable and that variable will represent the value. Let the un known variable be ‘x’. The unit of the variable ‘’x’ is in meters. This clearly states that the equation will consists of a variable which is ‘x’ and at the same time it is unknown.

Step 2:

x meters / 18 kilometres

After this step it is important to look at all the steps very carefully as it will help in the conversion method. After step 2, the conversion starts. Both the equations obtained from the step 1 and step 2 are put together. The two different equations which are obtained from both the steps are put together and are equal in order to obtain the correct value of the variables. There are different ways in which the value of the variable ‘x’ can be obtained. In order to obtain the value, we need to do the multiplication. The process of multiplication is cross multiplication. The numerator of the fraction is multiplied with the denominator of the equivalent fraction. The problem that is stated need the conversion of kilometres into meter. The multiplication which will be done will be between 1000 meters with the 18 kilometres and he variable ‘x meters’ with another factor that is 1 kilometre. This process helps inn obtaining the value of ‘x’ and it is made much easy.

Step 3:

1000 meters/ 1 kilometre = x meters/ 18 kilometres

The above equation clearly shows that both the equation is written in a way that both are equal to one another. In the next step both the equations are solved in a manner to obtain the value of ‘x’. After the process of cross multiply the simplified equation which is obtained can be written us:

Step 4:

1000 meters * 18 kilometres = x meters * 1 kilometre

After solving the equation to one of the easiest step the following step will help in obtaining the result. The result can be obtained easily by evaluating and doing the multiplication. The very first thing that is noticed that we need to obtain the value in terms of meters. In order to get the value in terms of meters it is important to divide both the sides with kilometres. The division with the unit of kilometres helps in the cancellation of the kilometres units from both the sides and helps in obtaining the value which is in meters.

Step 4:

(1000 meters * 18 kilometres) / Kilometres = (x meters * 1 kilometre)/ kilometres

The division of both the sides with the unit of kilometres helps in the cancellation of the units and helps in bringing the equation to a position where all the units consists of the same units. The division helps in achieving the desire units in which the conversion is required.

Step 5:

18000 meters = x

From the different steps which are expressed or performed it can be stated that 18 km is equal to 18,000 meters.  The unknown variable is the x which is equivalent to 18,000 meters. The conversion plays one of the major role and it is important to perform conversion in simple steps so that it is helpful in different fields. At the end the desired outcome is received. The distance which was previously expressed in kilometres can now be expressed in terms of meters. All the step helps in doing the conversion in a much easier way at the same time it is done at a much faster rate. The cancellation of the units helps in the conversion of units and getting the unit of meters. However, the basic steps involve the knowledge about how much value is equivalent to 1 kilometres in terms of meters. Moreover, the idea helps in making the entire conversion process much easy and fast.
