Mental Disorder Case Study or Annotated Bibliography Option 1: Mental Disorder Paper Based on Movie Movies chosen for the list were based on mental disorders portrayed in the content. Since most movies related to this type of subject matter are R rated, they may contain adult themes, strong language, or violence. If you find this type of material offensive or uncomfortable, you are strongly urged to complete Option 2 listed below. Requirements for Option 1 Paper: Write a 6- to 9-page report about a mental disorder portrayed in the movie. A list of movies is posted in the Syllabus section in Blackboard. The research paper will count thirty (30%) percent of your semester grade. The focus of the paper should be on the psychological disorder, not the movie storyline. The paper should cover the following: Section One – Summary of the Movie 1. Summarize the movie in 2-3 pages. Discuss how the symptoms of the mental disorder were portrayed. Give your opinion of the portrayal based on your research and understanding of the disorder. 2. Describe the character with the disorder in the movie. Include his/her age, gender, socioeconomic status, education level, ethnicity, occupation, family members, and any other relevant information. 3. Discuss how the movie portrayed the disorder and the treatment (or lack of) for the disorder. Give your opinion of the portrayal. 4. Answer the following: a. How did experiences from the past influence the character’s present-day experiences? b. Describe the impact of the following on the character and his/her experiences with the disorder: education, financial needs, temperament, family members, and environment. Section Two – Description of the Disorder Give an in-depth description of the disorder.Cover the following topics in a section of your paper: You will need to include parenthetical references to cite your sources (author(s), year, page number). 1. Symptoms 2. Diagnostic criteria 3. Possible causes of the disorder 4. Standard treatments of the disorder Section Three – Research Findings Provide a brief summary of 3-5 published journal articles that focus specifically on this disorder. Include in your summary how you will use the information to minster to others. Each article must have been written in the last five years. Do not use books. Use scholarly peer-reviewed articles such as those found in Psychology Collection (GALE) and Psychological and Behavioral Science which may be accessed through the library website. Articles from pop psychology online sites such as Psychology Today, ScienceDaily, Popular Science, and WebMD are not acceptable sources. A reference page should accompany the assignment showing the URL of each article reviewed. Copies of the articles must be submitted.
