HUMNT1101 Introduction To Humanities

This course introduces vital areas of the humanities, such as the visual and performing arts, literature, history, and philosophy. Students analyze and evaluate works of art, and develop connections among these works and their historical, cultural, and philosophical contexts. Discussions, writings, oral presentations, group activities, and visits to cultural venues prepare students for more advanced inquiry in subsequent courses. The university has gone through the extent of producing an e-library that will contain e-books and journals that students can access all the time. These will be relevant to the subject of study so that the students get the help they need from the safety of their homes due to the recent pandemic situation. It will be an 8-week learning course that will include not only chapter learnings but the projects as well. Attendance is a key factor as participation in the classes and activities will be involve grading. Meets MnTC Goal Areas 2 and 6. This course serves as a general introduction to the role that humanities such as the arts, literature, and philosophy play in shaping humanity's conception of itself and society. This course serves to expand the student's knowledge of the human condition and human cultures, especially the values expressed in works of human imagination and thought. When it comes to delivery of the course the university has offline as well as online methods. The university has a student portal that students can access from anywhere at any time for various kinds of tasks. All student material will be available online once the respected faculty members upload it online on the portal and students can access it all the time. There are discussion forums where students can discuss relevant matters for growth and development by sharing each other’s views and knowledge as peer support is important and peer learning is effective. There will be plenty of practice examinations and case studies available on the portal for the students to follow or to practice at any given point in time so that they can improve find their flaws and work on development. Also, the students can raise a request for extra classes or remedial classes that will be later reviewed by the university, and later a class will be scheduled for the student.

When it comes to weightage the first 10% is given to attendance as that is one of the key factors in the discipline. They will be required to maintain proper attendance. Then there is the mid-term exam that will have 20% weightage. This examination will follow the traditional question-answer format where all chapters taught in the first phase will be included and students will have to answer questions in an essay format within a given time. Then there will be a final term examination that will have a total of 30% weightage and this too will follow the traditional format with the mini case study analysis. Then 20% weightage will be given to the reflective journal that will be in the format of report writing and students will have to adhere to the word count strictly. The respected faculty will provide various options from which they can choose. Then there will be discussions that will have 20% weightage. Here the students will be given topics of discussion where they have to post their arguments or discussion paragraphs on the forum online and if it is class-based then they will be arranged in groups where they will have to speak.
