We have dedicated much of the required readings to address the conditions, policies, and issues that affect the health of Indigenous peoples. The purpose of this assignment is to explore and assess one policy (an example of a policy is Jordon's Principle) or Law (an example of a Law is Bill C-31) that directly affects the health of Indigenous people in Canada. This assignment must provide background information, history, and the current issues that impact health. As we have discussed throughout the course, policies and laws - regardless of their being situated inside or outside the field of health - have lasting impacts on the lives of Indigenous peoples. Your chosen policy or legal issue will explore the varying ways that this occurs. Follow the Steps to Successful Policy Analysis (see: Week 8) Note: You may not be able to access all of the information outlined in the Steps to Successful Policy Analysis in your paper. Allow this resource to be a guide for you as you research your specific topic. Your job as a researcher is to discern what research questions are most relevant to your overall thesis. Directions Students may work in groups of 2 or 3 people, or you may choose to write this paper on your own. All group members will receive the same mark for the paper regardless of the individual contribution to the work. Students who wish to work on the paper alone is also acceptable, however there is a lot of information that needs to be accessed therefore team/group work is encouraged! In this email, please indicate whether you plan to write in a group or individually. This assignment seeks to better understand the underlining issues that contribute to health inequities of Indigenous peoples in Canada. This includes access, compliance, education and knowledge translation, culturally sensitive interventions (concerning identity, historical trauma, structural racism, and so on), and an overall understanding of the conditions required to effectively implement this policy or law. The below grading rubric will assist you in carrying out your paper. Please include a SWOT analysis (see: Week 8) into your paper. Familiarizing yourself with these processes will help you during the final exam. What other policies, laws, political relationships are a part of your topic area (set the context for your specific policy/law) and how are they connected?
