In one or two sentences describe how the study was carried out. ? Describe the results of the study. o What did the authors find? Were hypotheses supported or not supported? o Do not report any statistics here! ? Describe the meaning and implications of the results. o How did the researcher(s) interpret the results? What do the results mean and why they are important? How might the results be used in the future? ? In your own words, summarize two limitations of the study or future research suggestions. o These should be your own ideas, not those by the researchers in the assigned article. Students must summarize everything in their own words with appropriate APA citations throughout for the final research summary. The final assignment will receive a grade of zero if citations are not used. Marks will be deducted if students rely on direct quotations from the articles, even if they are properly cited. Assignment Instruction – Formatting: Note: Students will summarize the article according to APA guidelines, and should rely heavily on their notes from Seminars 1 and 2, the APA resources posted on Blackboard, and (most importantly) the APA Manual (6th ed.) Writing Style ? The assignment should be no more than 600 words excluding the title page and references. ? Document must be clear, concise, and free from errors ? Material must be presented in the order specified (i.e., purpose, methods, results, discussion of results) ? Summary should be written in third person and past tense ? The tone of the report must be formal and technical, not colloquial (conversational). ? Appropriate sentence and paragraph structure (e.g., no one sentence paragraphs) ? Correct use of terminology (e.g., Do not use the words “prove”, “correct”, or “wrong” when referring to the hypotheses). Use the proper terminology for hypotheses (i.e., “the hypothesis was supported” or “the hypothesis was not supported”); Correct use of the terms “correlation, “experiment” and “cause and effect”). ? When using the author’s names in a parenthetical citation use “&”. o e.g., (Parker & Taylor, 2017). References Page ? The reference page is in APA format and includes only the reference for the article summarized (secondary references are NOT included on the reference page). Body of Paper ? Material must be summarized in the student’s own words (e.g., no plagiarism or use of quotations). ? If the proper name of a measure is used, a secondary source citation must be provided General Formatting ? Double-space and type the summary. No extra spaces between paragraphs ? Use one-inch (2.5 cm) margins on all sides of the page ? Number all pages in the top right corner, beginning with the title page ?
