Factors Influencing Global Prevalence of Tuberculosis

Students who complete the module would understand how global health systems and agencies work and they will be able to:
1.Define and critically analyse debates surrounding key concepts such as globalisation, global change, global health and governance

2.Analyse critically the various drivers and forms of global change and their relationship with globalisation processes

3.Critically appraise the effects and contemporary challenges of globalisation for global public health

4.Evaluate the role of different actors and global health partnerships and initiatives that aim to promote and protect health and issues of global health governance

ASSESSMENT
 
The module is assessed by ONE ITEM of coursework described below. Seminars organized in the Module concern case-study analyses involving students working in small groups to prepare them for doing the summative coursework. In accordance with the Postgraduate assessment Marking Criteria, students will need to achieve a mark of 50% to pass the coursewor


Tuberculosis (TB) is already one of the commonest communicable diseases whose emergence, control and management are influenced by globalization. You are required to: Critically analyse the impact of globalisation on emergence, spread and control of TB and set out the challenges facing global and public health agents in their fighting the disease.

Guidance to doing the Essay
Through analysing and interpreting the issues highlighted in the case-study, use the following guidance to structure a 4,000 word essay in response to the task described in Option 2.

1. Identify and describe FOUR globalization factors and explore to clarify how EACH factor influences global prevalence of tuberculosis [1,500 words].
2. Identify and describe the role of FOUR categories of agencies involved in activities for the prevention, control and management of tuberculosis [800 words].
3. For each of the FOUR categories, identify and examine the challenges facing specific agencies in performing their role more effectively to reduce the global burden of tuberculosis [1,500 words].
4. Draw your conclusions about (i) globalization and tuberculosis prevalence, and (ii) issues on global efforts to prevent spread, control and management of TB [200 words].
