According to the study of Jean Piaget and his theory of cognitive development egocentrism can be define to be an inability on the path of a child particularly in the preoperational stage of the development. This needs to be performed to see if there is any point of view other than their own. This is in psychology is to take and identify the various different perspectives of other people. This type of thinking can be commonly found in the young children in the preoperational stage of the cognitive development. A very good example might be something like upon his or her mother crying a young baby e can give his or her favourite stuffed animal in order to make her feel better.
As already defined egocentrism in human development can be referred to the inability of the child to be able to see a situation from the point of view of the other person. The egocentric child as understood by experts and believe in found in many studies has been assume that other people see them here them and feel exactly e the way that child does. This is exactly the feature of the preoperational child as according to the development theory of Jean Piaget.
Egocentric thinking can be considered the normal tendency for particularly a young child. This is required bye that child to see everything which is happening around him or her and is related to them. This is not at all be considered being selfishness. For example, if in case a child is moving very much for something and any activity to happen and if that thing happens then the child believes he or she have caused it to happen. This means children perceive that things happening around them is only because they have wanted that to be the way and nothing else. As we cannot sense the perceptions of others the think things happening is due to them only.
This refers to the inability of children to see a situation or something else from the perspective of other around them. We cannot think and perceive that things happening around them can be due to some other reasons. Instead, they believe things that are happening around is just because they had wanted that to happen. Such children believe and assume that other people around them like their parents and other relatives see hear and feel exactly the way they do.
There could be several examples of egocentrism. This is nothing but the normal tendency for young children to be able to see everything and anything happening around them. For example, if they are willing something to happen that they perhaps like and if it happens, they will believe that if the thing happening around them is because they believe this way. Egocentrism is the inability to consider the perspective of another person. This type of Thinking can be seen commonly in the young children in their preoperational stage of the cognitive development. An example of that it can be such as upon seen his or her mother crying a young child can give his or her favourite stuff beat anything like animal just to make her feel better.
Jean Piaget and Barbel Inhelder developed the "Three Mountain Task" in the 1940s. They did that to study the ability of children, so that, they could coordinate the spatial perspectives. In the very specific task, a child faces the display of three model mountains at the time a researcher is placing a doll at the different viewpoints or perspectives of the display.
Piaget proposed the four different and major stages of the cognitive development and called them as sensorimotor intelligence, preoperational thinking, formal operational thinking and concrete operational thinking. Each of these stages is is correlated in some ways with the age Period of the childhood but this is only about approximately. The Piaget theory focuses on the development of children moving through the four different stages of the mental development. This focuses not just on the understanding of how children can acquire the knowledge but it also that the understanding of the nature of Intelligence.
This is about egocentrism children believing that things happening around them are just because they want that to be that way only; however, they fail to identify and restructure the reality that things happening around them are just because their parents and big people around them have wanted that to be the way. Piaget believed that the thinking process that people have can change at different stages and throughout the life journey. This changes from birth to the maturity because and due to a fact that they always trying to make sense of things happening around them. When they learn something and differently it affects their thinking process and they gradually develop a better sense of understanding provided the surrounding environment is also equipped with intellect mind people. This change can be radical however happens to be slower. The four factors which influence this to happen are biological maturation, social experiences, activity and equilibration.
Again, this refers to the inability of the child to be able to see a situation or something else from their own point of view. Their point of views can be different from their parents and elderly people. Such a child like the egocentric child assumes that other people around them can see hear and feel exactly the way they have been doing. In the development theory also, it is mention that this is a special feature of the child that is preoperational. Children in the preschool and primary schools tend to be egocentric. This egocentrism in them can be categorised not by the refusal of the child to think in a way other children or adults do but only by their inability to grasp the thing and take into account the viewpoint of others. The child is egocentric or not can be understood seeing them as they could be evidence from their dramatically structured speech.
