Another type of chromosomal abnormality is called a translocation, where a piece of one chromosome breaks off and attaches to another chromosome. This can cause problems if the translocation disrupts a gene or regulatory region important for normal development or function.
In some cases, individuals may have more or fewer than the usual number of sex chromosomes. For example, individuals with Turner syndrome have only one X chromosome, while individuals with Klinefelter syndrome have an extra X chromosome, resulting in a total of 47 chromosomes. These types of chromosomal abnormalities can also cause a range of health problems.
