In the United States education system and other countries, Social Studies is the integrated study of multiple fields of Social Science and Humanities that also include history, geography, and political science. The term was first coined by Americans educated around the twentieth century as a catch-all for all the subjects and others that didn't fit into the traditional models of the lower education system in the United States, like philosophy and psychology. One of the evidence purposes of Social Studies, especially at the level of higher education, is to integrate the various disciplines with their unique methodologies and the particular focus of concentration into a much more coherent field of subject areas which communicate with each other by means of sharing different academic tools and the perspective for more profound analyses of the social problems and issues. Social Studies aim to train the student for informed and responsible participation in a range of Democratic societies. The origin of Social Studies can be traced to the 19th century, which later grew in the 20th century. An early concept of Social Studies can be found in John Dewey's elementary and secondary education philosophy. Social studies aren't just a subject but instead functioning as a field of study that incorporates numerous different topics holding their importance on their own. It primarily includes the issues of Geography, history, economics, civics and sociology. Through all of that, the elements of ethics, psychology, anthropology, philosophy, art, and literature are incorporated into the subject field. The field of study can have focused on human beings and their various respective relationships. To teach Social Studies in the United States, one has to obtain a valid teaching certification to teach in that given state and a genuine subject-specific diploma in Social Studies.
According to the National Council for the Social Studies, ten different themes represent the standards about human experience constituted in the effectiveness of Social Studies, which are culture, time continuity and change, people, places and environment, individual development and identity, individuals’ groups and Institutions power authority and governance production distribution and consumption science technology and Society global connections and Civic ideals and practices.
Advanced Social Studies is a course designed to acquire the knowledge, skill, and competence to provide various services in a social and vocational rehabilitation context and two progress to higher education training. In this course, students will have the opportunity to study team leadership disability awareness work experience rehabilitation practice person-centred planning, Health Promotion boundary management and positive behavioural support. On successful completion of discourse, students will be able to work independently and take responsibility for the work of others to provide a range of services in a vocational and social rehabilitation context. In addition to the different significant awards, workshops on counselling will also be provided on the program.
