Every maiden speech is different, but we've put together a plan to help you get started.
Let's start with the bride. finish in pairs. Of all those who attend a wedding, you know best how much your best friend's partner has become. Your speech should relate to friends you knew long before you met their significant other and return to the role they played in their lives. Maybe your friend just got more fun, or maybe your best friend has never been so happy. If you don't know your new mate, it's also a good idea to include them in your speech. Talk about how they complement each other or how your best friend's new husband improved them.
Pepper to joke. A story conveys your point of view better than a general statement. As Peterson said, "Every story you share should have a core theme that connects them all." “Expanding this topic towards the end of the speech will have a strong emotional impact.”
In the end with a positive outlook. The essence of this conversation is not about the relationship with friends, but about the relationship the couple shares. Make sure all the individual ingredients of the toast are working well, how happy the couple is together, and good luck to their wedding.
Remember this helpful tip from professional speech composer Kaitlyn Peterson to help you toast with your bridesmaids.
Start the creative process by writing down memories, feelings, or ideas that remind you of your best friend. Peterson says, “I encourage you to write freely for 20 minutes. “After this exercise, you should have quality material that you can turn into a speech.” This gives you a plan for all the key things you want to create. You can create some and then fill it with some background information.
Get rid of common compliments. As Peterson said, "Use a fun and exciting story to show the bride's personality." There's a big difference between saying "She's such a good friend!" Instead of just telling a story that shows it.
Half of your guests may not know your BFF very well, so use this moment to picture how amazing they are. Bring your character to life with details only you can see.
This is not about you. There should be a lot of talk about how to socialize with friends, but you shouldn't be the center of attention. After a brief self-introduction (remember that most people may not know who you are or how you feel about the couple), you should not comment further on yourself. How to explain why newborns are so good.
Don't mention your ex. No one likes to recall previous relationships, especially in front of family, friends and new life partners. Maintain a positive tone in your speech. Then it will be positively reflected on you as well. You don't want to look like you're trying to fry your friends.
Keep it short. The longer your speech, the more likely you are to lose your attention. Peterson suggests, "Keep doing it for less than five minutes." "Two to five minutes is good."
Stop: Pause for a few seconds after each joke to make the audience laugh. If you start talking right after that, people won't laugh or understand the next line. Starting your presentation with a fun tone can help grab your audience's attention in a minute or two, but keep meaningful content interesting through to the end. “Your goal should be a mix of humor and sincerity to help your guests wipe their tears with a smile,” Peterson said.
Don't use insider jokes. Do not use if other wedding guests are joking or need to understand the situation. If people don't understand the context behind it, they'll probably fly over their heads. It's okay to fool your friends, but don't forget. Don't say anything that could be embarrassing or uncomfortable.
Customization: “The louder you talk, the more comfortable you feel,” Peterson points out. Practice your speech twice a day at least a week in advance and record it twice to hear the tempo and tone. Also, practice talking to your friends to see if they're joking and verifying their real existence in the mirror.
