A UK motorcycle manufacturer produces a range of petrol engine motorcycles for sale through a dealer network throughout the UK. They currently source the engines and some other components from a Chinese supplier. They design the motorcycle and manufacture some components as well as assemble the products in-house. Having seen the emerging electric scooter and motorcycle market expansion, they now wish to quickly move into this market as well. As they are already at full manufacturing capacity at their UK site, they propose to design and develop the product in the UK but will use their Chinese supplier’s electric motor and seek to manufacture and assemble the electric powered models in an overseas facility.

As part of evaluating this new product opportunity, they want you to analyse the commercial and economic situation, plan a project to develop a new design, and evaluate the project activities for potential issue and ethics.
