Learning Outcomes
- Critically review a clinical guideline for a specific presentation, examining the application of evidence-based practice and research principles to healthcare practice.
- Critically apply healthcare research principles to the rational for a research project or business proposal.

- Your coursework will be given a zero mark if you do not submit a copy through Turnitin by the specified date and hour above (late work receives a zero mark).

Assessment Brief
- Using the template provided, and the word guides indicated within each section of that template you must critically appraise either the clinical guideline indicated - ADHD: Clinical Practice Guideline for the Diagnosis, Evaluation & Treatment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in Children & Adolescents OR a clinical guideline of your choice to evidence:
- An understanding of the strength of the clinical evidence used to develop this guideline
- The practical application and implications for healthcare delivery within the guideline
- Content of the introduction should include (but not limited to) answers to the following questions?
- Who developed the guideline? Who does it apply to professionally and geographically? Does it include a time range of when published and when it will be reviewed? Etc.
Additional considerations that may help you write this section:
- Does the evidence address the problem? Were all relevant outcomes considered (e.g. overall & disease specific survival, quality of life, presence or absence of side effects or adverse events, etc)?
- Any cost effectiveness analyses provided & implications on practice?
- Are the recommendations practical/pragmatic – especially with regards to different healthcare systems and varying socioeconomic status?
- Any monitoring tools made available for implementation process?
- How applicable are the recommendations to patients?
- Any conflicts of interest?
- The student addresses the question fully, including excellent summaries, critical analysis, synthesis and evaluation. At the higher end, the assignment may demonstrate originality and creativity. Coherence
- The entire work is clearly structured, addresses the topic authoritatively, is based on extensive and critically informed background reading, and is also succinct.
- A clear and convincing line of critical and evaluative argument is demonstrated throughout. A degree of originality and insight should also be present, supported by evidence of wider reading, some of which goes beyond the recommended reading.
- Demonstrates creativity and some originality in the selection and presentation of evidence. Provides thorough critical analysis of seminal work, and an informed knowledge of theoretical positions. All evidence cited is correctly referenced in the text as well as in the references.

Within the clinical guideline critically analyse the quality of evidence that is used (based on the hierarchies of evidence) and whether this is appropriate to the type of clinical issue being addressed?
