Students will be expected to explore a contemporary issue from one of five themes: Global health, Ethics, Politics, Diversity or Accountability and develop a poster presentation illustrating this exploration.

A digital copy/capture of your poster must also be submitted in the same document at the end of your rationale in an appendix. You must also include a 300 word formative bullet-pointed list with your poster of the key themes and discussion points you would cover if you were to present the poster physically.

Assessment guidance

You are required to produce an informative/educational poster relating to an aspect in the module themes applied to your field of practice.

Within your poster presentation and rationale (1,500-word document), you will explore a contemporary issue from one of five themes: Global health, Ethics, Politics, Diversity or Accountability.

Acknowledge relevant evidence-based practice and literature using the DMU Harvard referencing system and maintain confidentiality.

Assessment - Guidance for the Poster:

Visual element:

The poster may be produced by hand or computer aided and should be creatively produced. The poster must be able to stand alone to some extent, i.e. a passer-by could get the gist of the content.

The poster must be referenced appropriately i.e. quotes, pictures (DMU Harvard referencing style).

The poster must:

·Contain no more than 500 words;

·Be clearly titled;

·Include student number;

·Have a specific target audience in mind;

·Concentrate on the subject matter which is to be informative/educational;

·Contain content which relates to the module themes;

·Contain an introduction to theme topic and conclusion;

·Contain diagrams, graphics or images to enhance the visual impact of the poster; the poster must reference all materials presented;

·Demonstrate accuracy of information;

·Demonstrate evidence of research;

·Include at least 4-6 references in a list (this wordage is not included in the word limit) submit all references in the rationale document.

·Be included as an appendix to your written rationale submission with an additional formative 300 words highlighting the main themes and discussion points of your poster that you would talk about if you were to physically present it.

The poster must not:

·Breach of confidentiality (patients, carers, staff, workplace or trust must not be identified);

·Include Material used without permission of the author if copyrighted (photographs, diagrams or text).  Your poster can:

·Use arrows or numbers to guide the reader through the poster in a logical sequence;

·Be produced professionally, but it must be your own work.  You are not being assessed for your artistic ability, but a good impression and presentation will count. There are examples of academic posters from other schools in Hawthorne building and we hope to be able to bring you examples of past posters via the module shell. Printing: There is not requirement to physically print your poster as it is to be submitted electronically with your written rationale document.

You must prepare a maximum 300-word outline of the key themes and discussion points of the poster which will provide an opportunity to share the understanding of the content and evidence base.

Components of the presentation should include a rationale for the chosen topic, an outline of key points relating to the content and a brief evaluation of any relevant research or literature which supports the information.

Knowledge and content element:

You will explore a contemporary issue from one of five themes, applied to your chosen field of nursing practice.

You are advised to thoroughly read around your chosen topic to develop underpinning knowledge and understanding.

You must explain the relevance of your chosen theme to your field of nursing practice.

A 1500-word rationale document providing an overview (summary) of the poster and its’ evidence base / theoretical underpinnings needs to be submitted. This should be typed A4 and must include the full reference list for the presentation.

Obtaining your feedback and marks for assignments:

·Once submitted any marks and feedback for the assignment will be given electronically and not via student services.

·Unratified marks, assignment feedback comments and annotated scripts will be released four weeks after the submission date and can be viewed from the Turnitin or “my grades” tab on the Blackboard shell for the module. If you require feedback in an alternative format please contact the module leader.

·You are strongly advised to save the electronic feedback to your portfolio record (a copy can then be printed if required).

·Feedback on your submitted work will include annotation of the script using Turnitin Grademark software; markers will write comments on your submitted work to assist in interpretation of feedback and the development of your academic style. Unratified feedback is issued as an early indication of results but have no formal standing until the appropriate assessment board has met to consider the results. Unratified feedback forms part of the learning process and cannot be used as the basis for appeal against assessment board decisions. This must be submitted for assessment with an electronic copy of your poster and accompanying 300-word supporting text in the same document.
